Increase my RAM via 64 bit route

I now have on my Toshiba satellite lappy (clean install win 10 home 32bit) because before it was Win 7 32 bit, could I load Window 10 home edition 64 bit (would allow me to install more than 4 gig ram) or am I confined to 32 bit!
Your thoughts as always most appreciated

to install 64 bit, another clean install with 64 bit windows installer will be needed.

If your laptop specs support 64 bit windows (the official page asks for too low, I think a higher specs would be good to run other programs) go for 64 bit.

If you plan for adding more RAM, make it sure that that the new RM is compatible with your system.

There are two major factors that limit the amount of RAM that will be usable. They are what the hardware supports and what the OS supports. The effective limit is the lower of the two. All versions of 64 bit Windows 10 support more than 4 GB RAM so the effective limit is what the hardware supports. As a clean install would be required the existing OS is not relevant.

Providing hardware specs would permit us to determine what your hardware supports.

Cheers to you both for the input, will checkout the spec on the Toshiba in the next couple of days (away all day tomorrow) and post, hopefully the hardware supports extra RAM, is that the determining factor?

Let us see your System Information file. That will say almost all.

I've checked it all out, and mobo supports 64bit, but alas mobo only supports MAX memory of 2 gig (1 gig in each slot) I think thats it really, I've tried, still I have other computers & tablets to play with. Thanks to you all.

If you are limited to 2 GB of total memory, than I would definitely stay put with 32 bit Windows on that computer. No harm, and nothing you are really missing out on.
