Scanner issue with Windows 10 update

    Hello,
Not sure if I'm in the right place, but I need some help.
My computer recently updated itself to Windows 10. I have a Brother MFC-J475DW printer, and the printing function works as usual. However, with the update, the scan function won't work. I had it set up so that I would just hit the scan button on the printer, select "scan to file," and the scan would show up on my computer. Now when I hit scan, the printer says "check connection" and won't proceed.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the printer, removed the printer altogether and set it up again. I can't seem to solve this issue, and google isn't helping me at this point.
Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

I had to reinstall my HP Laserjet M1212nf after the Upgrade to Win10 from Win7 using fresh software from HP. I have seen some computers where it worked to click Start, All Apps, go to W and then Windows Accessories and click on Windows Fax and Scan. It seems to be a hit or miss thingy as my HP Officejet Pro 8600 didn't have the same issue.

    Hi Berton,

Thanks for your reply. I went to Windows Fax and Scan, and tried the "new scan" option, but it said that no scanners were detected. Not sure how to proceed from here.

Here is the link to Brother. Lot of info on your printer and W10 driver and software.
Read the note on W10 Compatibility at bottom of page.

I am seeing the same issues. I reloaded all of the Brother software again several times and what ever combination of things I did the scanner is back. Not sure what advise I can give you... But I'm relieved to hear the issue has been experienced by others.

Edit: One of the troubleshooting things was to try the Brother scan app from the Windows store. And this issue cropped up on a clean install of Windows 10 after working for several months.

I had a similar problem with my DCP-7065DN but it is fine, now. I can't exactly remember what got the scan seeing the PC again but I know I did a lot of fiddling! Control Centre, fax and scan and printer setup entered into it!!

I know this is not immediately helpful to you except that it should keep your hopes up and keep trying.

I'm seeing that control center is no longer on my computer. The only way I can find to download it is through the full driver and software download from the Brother website. Problem is, I can't get through the setup wizard. I get to the screen in the attached image, I follow the instructions on the printer LCD, it prints a page saying WLAN connection is OK, and then nothing happens. Setup says it will proceed automatically once wireless networking is enable on the printer, but it doesn't. I don't know how to get around this.

Also, PJLLB, I found that Brother Print&Scan app, tried it out. I got it to scan, but this is the worst app I've ever seen. I can't even change the destination folder of the scans. I really don't want to be stuck using this. I just want the functionality that I had before the Windows 10 update.

Can we assume that this printer has always been connected via wireless and is using that wireless connection to print now?

You might try completely uninstalling the Brother Utilities. The uninstall the Brother program from the utilities program itself, or if that does not run the executable is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Brother\Uninst . It is BrUninstTool.exe. Then go to the Devices and Printers control panel and remove any Brother devices it they are there. Then try re-installing the latest Brother drivers and utilities. If this doesn't show the scanner, try adding the PC-FAX software as part of the installation. I don't use this, but with the loaded the scanner was recognized. If, during the installation of the drivers, the printer is not showing up immediately, manually enter the IP address of it. Once I did that everything seemed to work again. (Note: I'm not sure of what exactly I did to get the scanner working, but these steps were part of the process to get things working.)
