    Uninstall Realtek and install AMD?

Just bought a pre-owned laptop with Win7, and upgraded it to 10. Now having a problem launching a program because of a Realtek issue. Can I just get rid of Realtek and install an AMD driver like my other Win10 laptop has (and works just fine)?

I'm unaware of any AMD audio devices that are comparable to a Realtek sound chip. At a guess, the AMD sound drivers are only for an HDMI output, assuming that your laptop has one.

If you're prepared to lose the onboard sound and only get it from external devices (like a TV), then go for it.

Any corrections will be humbly accepted.

hmmmm, okay. Good to know. I'm a little stuck as to what I can do about the issue. I'm getting the following error when launching Cakewalk's SONAR program: "System_Thread_Exception_Not_Handled RTKVHD64.sys". So far, Googling has told me that it's related to the Realtek driver, and that's the only driver listed in Device Manager on the new laptop. Any other suggestions are much appreciated, and I'll keep researching in the meantime.

Did you try latest Realtek drivers ? They seem to publish new ones every week.

Try the links found here for the new Realtek drivers: Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version - Windows 10 Forums
I installed version R2.79 on three older computers which I installed Windows 10 on and all three worked just fine. Once you navigate to the page with the driver you can download the readme file. On page 10 you will find all the Realtek Chip sets for which the driver is compatible.
