Just surfed Amazon for a minute, is there anyway you could recommend me one since I'm not sure if it will function as needed. There are a few that are just "splitters" and a few that are just outlet to USB hubs. I don't understand how to find the difference, as some descriptions on Amazon are very vague.
    Here's one:

Amazon.com: AmazonBasics 4 Port USB 3.0 Hub with 5V/2.5A power adapter: Computers Accessories

I hope that you don't exceed the cost of a purpose-made external burner before you're done.

Me too, haha. Thank you very much. I will update the thread when it arrives.

Unfortunately the power hub did not make a difference in Windows Media Player's behavior or PowerISO. I want to get this thing to work. I know I could just purchase a new one, but I'd rather work on what I have.

Is there another step I need to take or does it look as though there is another problem at hand. Monday I will be trying the drive on another computer.

I have the original power adapter for my laptop. Also, I noticed there is a power light on the SATA cable that glows blue when it is plugged in. Input on the laptop charger says 2.4v and output says 19v. Hope that helps.
If the external enclosure is looking for a 5V input you do NOT want to be plugging your laptop power pack into it. If you have been doing that you have likely damaged it by over voltageing it.

I purchased a USB>sata enclosure from eBay which came with two USB connections, one of which was for power; works a treat.
This is on the UK eBay but is what I bought for my Blu Ray burner from my old laptop.
