No keyboard after upgrade from 7 to 10

After 10 upgrade, the keyboard in my Compaq Presario CQ57-315NR notebook doesn't work except when I'm in "Control Panel". I seem to be able to type in the search box there, but that is the only place the keyboard works. I have tried uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling it to no avail. Tried updating driver and says I have the latest driver. Any suggestions? - Thanks

Hi, noted HP only provides drivers for Win 7 apparently, which may indicate you will have difficulty after upgrading.

However, HP doesn't provide your keyboard driver, so you can't try an older version.

Try Safe Mode- can you boot correctly into that? And is there any change as regards the keyboard?

    Try the Hardware Troubleshooter:

An outside possibility might be to run a driver scan with Drivermax (free)

I have compaq presario cq60 - 410 us notebook computer and there was windows 7 professional on it and the coputer was working fine. In November of 2015 i got update from Microsoft upgrade to Windows 10 for free. I did upgrade to Windows 10 and then my keyboard stopped working and I went back to windows 7 professional again using the option available in windows 10 to go back to windows 7 professional. But still my keyboard is not working. Please inform me what should I do now. Thank you.

Thanks for trying to help. Started in safe mode and keyboard seems to work. Does that mean that settings and drivers are not the problem? Tried hardware troubleshooter and after restart there was no change; still no keyboard. I think maybe the best alternative is going back to windows 7.

Hi, interesting.. suggests some sort of conflict in normal mode.

Certainly check that your PC is actually approved for upgrade to Win 10, also on HP's forum etc for anyone who's upgraded and their experience.

While you could try a clean boot, I don't think that will help- but try anyway if you like.

Suggest you have a look in System Information, Sharing/Conflicts in normal mode (you can use safe mode as a comparison). Obviously more drivers are loaded in normal mode

I had the same problem when I upgraded my 8 to 10, no Keyboard function. I had to go into the device manager & choose a generic MS keyboard driver. After trying different ones, I finally found one that worked & it started working again.
