    HP driver update Error 0x80240017

My HP LaserJet Professional CP1520 Series PCL 6 works, and it shows up in device manager, which indicates that driver is up to date.

    64-bit Windows 10 Pro.

However, it is not found by the HP Support Assistant. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer, but I continue to get the 0x80240017 update error.

If the Support Assistant can't find it, how can the Windows 10 driver update find it? HP no help so far.

Is there any kind of fix now or in the future? I don't want to merely temporarily prevent a driver update.

I'd be very grateful for any assistance.

    Steve

Windows 10 should be the same.
If that does not work then follow the links found in my signature

Instead of using HP Support Assistant, have you tried one of the HP Printer forums and ask the experts there ?

    Forums such as this one

    You can google for more.

    Thanks, davidhk,
I'm still waiting for a reply from the HP Printer Forum. The HP Support Assistant is a program for finding devices, but it can't find my printer, even though the device manager says it's working properly.

    Thanks, hTconeM9user,
I've narrowed down the problem to the following: Windows 10 update cannot find the printer in my system even though the printer works and appears in the device manager, and the device manager says it's working properly.

I too have an HP Printer and as long as it works ok I leave well alone
If the device manager says t is working k and has no yellow or red mark against it then I would say it is all good to go

OK. Thanks again. Eventually, someday, someone will figure out why HP cannot find their printer in my system.

As a former HP employee and owner of several HP laptops, I can tell you this. Don't waste your time with any of the pre-installed HP junk. Best to remove it all or do a clean install.

That being said, your best bet is to find the drivers yourself and install them. If you can't find specific Windows 10 drivers, try 8.1 drivers.
