    System Notifications Won't Save

    I hate that every time I plug in my headphones I get the annoying sound and notification that they're plugged in (for some reason it sounds off twice every time they're plugged in actually). So in preferences I turn off Realtek HD Audio Manager, which fixes the problem, but when I restart my computer it's back on. Preferences were working fine until about a couple months ago when Windows updated.

    Is there any way I can fix this?

    @mkmossop
    Welcome to tenforums.com! :)
    If a particular setting will not save, you could try turning off the entire sound scheme in Control Panel/Sound/Sounds

    (It probably sounds twice because it detects the headphone device then the mic device?)

    Will try that out thanks! Just set them to off... I'll see if it's saved when I restart.

    Hey... so I forgot to come back and reply to this. Turning off the sound in the sounds settings worked, and I no longer get sound notifications.

    However I still get the notifications from VLC (when a song repeats the VLC notification pops up) and when I plug in my headphones I get the pop up for that too.

    I can turn these off under settings > system > notifications and actions > show notifications from these apps

    Here I turn off Realtek HD Audio Manager as well as VLC. This works, however when I restart my computer these are turned back on.

    Anyone have a solution to fix this?

    Hi there. Did you look through all the system sounds to see if you can change or turn off anything related. The only other thing I can think of is Startup programs to disable Realtek Audio Manager and/or VLC.

    Hi yes I edited the sounds there. The problem is basically I have vlc playing all the time on white noise to mask tinnitus that I have, so every time it repeats the vlc notification pops of. Also the realtek thing pops up whenever I plug/unplug headphones, which can be annoying cause sometimes just barely touching the jack causes the notification to pop up a few times. So since they're both running I don't think disabling them at startup will help. Not sure what else to try...

    I found this Registry edit you may want to try at least for the Realtek pop up. I don't have VLC to be of help.

    Back up the potion of the registry you want to change before performing in case things get messed up.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/322756

    Open Regedit.exe

    Find/search for [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Realtek\Audio\RtkNGUI64\General]

    Change

    "JDPopup"=dword:00000001"

    to

    "JDPopup"=dword:00000000

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks for your help. I looked at it again and found that above "show notifications for these apps" there an option to turn off ALL app notifications. I turned that off and it worked for both of these and didn't reset when I restarted my computer so everything's good .
