I no longer have an issue with it. I checked the loudness option and that helped.

    This helped a little:
Right click on the Volume icon,
    Playback Devices
    Right Click on Speakers
    Advanced
    Select 24bit,192000 Hz (Studio Quality)
This did the trick for me. After I made the change, half volume was loud enough. Before, full volume was too low.

I had the same problem and tried just about everything to fix it. Nothing worked. Then on a whim, I right clicked on the sound button on the task bar (bottom right) and then Open Volume Mixer. My Chrome volume was turned way down! I only listen to sound on the internet, Netflix, YouTube etc. That solved the problem, easy as that!

Found the Solution finally after 3 hours of working!!!!
After following the above steps, please follow below steps for assured solution to the problem. I already did so and now its working fine. volume outputs are okay now and the headphones/mic is also working fine.

    1) Go to device manager, under control panel.
    2) Select "audio input and outputs". Under this option, two options will occur stating "conexant audio driver or Conexant audio driver HD" or something like these. Right click on each one of them at a time and uninstall both of them from the system.
    3) After uninstalling, scroll further down the list in device manager. You will find "Sound video and game controllers". Please select this and again uninstall all Conexant audio drivers.

AFTER THESE THREE STEPS, BASICALLY THERE ARE NO AUDIO DRIVERS ON YOUR LAPTOP/COMPUTER/PC.
So we need new audio drivers. Go to google.com and search "Realtek audio drivers for windows 10".

    1) Follow this link : Realtek
    2) Please select the small box in front of "I accept to the above" and click on "NEXT".
    3) A new page will open and a list of divers will appear. If you are using windows 10 on a 32-bit system then follow the first link mentioning (
32bits Vista, Windows7, Windows8, Windows8.1, Windows10 Driver only (Executable file) and click on the last dialogue box "GLOBAL"

    4)
If you are using a 64-bit system, then follow the link mentioning (
64bits Vista, Windows7, Windows8, Windows8.1, Windows10 Driver only (Executable file) and click on the dialogue box at the end of this row "GLOBAL" .
    5) Let the download complete and after completion please install.
    6) It will ask to restart the system. After restarting you are good to go.!!!!

ALL WE DID WAS REMOVE THE CONEXANT AUDIO DRIVERS AND REPLACE
THEM WITH "REALTEK AUDIO DRIVERS" ..
    Enjoy!!!

Could it be any of these, whether obvious or not, or all the above or, a combination thereof?

I have a Dell Studio XPS 1647 which has IDT 92HD73C1 Audio, Dell only offered a driver up to Windows 7, none even for Windows 8.1. Searched for hours regarding this as my audio volume level was very low after upgrading from Win7 to Win10.

Finally googled "upgraded windows 10 audio volume low" and found this forum thread.

I enabled Loudness Equalization and that got the volume level back to where it was. Changing the shared Quality didn't make a difference in my case but Loudness did.

The Loudness effect does seem to be dynamic but since I doubt IDT audio drivers will ever be available for Windows 10, it does the job.

Before this, I was thinking of going back to Win7 on this laptop as the audio volume was just too low.

    Thanks for posting this.

I'VE FINALLY FOUND THE SOLUTION FOR MY ISSUE WITH LOW VOLUME WHILE CASTING NETFLIX FROM MY LAPTOP...AND ITS FAST AND EASY. CONTINUE READING AFTER THE SNIPPET IF THE SPECIFICS OF MY PLIGHT INTEREST YOU.

    Low sound volume-sound-issue-post.png

I COULDN'T SHAKE THE NOTION THAT IT HAD TO BE SOMETHING "SIMPLE" . UNINSTALLING/REINSTALLING SOUND DRIVERS HAD TO BE A FIX THAT BYPASSES WHATEVER THE TRUE CAUSE IS... IN MY CASE ANYWAY. I WAS RUNNING REALTEK DRIVERS ALREADY SHOULD BE MENTIONED AS WELL AS THAT I DO OFTEN SUBSCRIBE TO THE "I DUNNO BUT IT WORKS NOW" PHILOSOPHY.

AS ALREADY STATED BY ANOTHER, "ENHANCEMENTS" (TURNING ON LOUDNESS) HAS NEARLY ZERO TO DO WITH ANY AMPLITUDE OF DIALOG. I BELIEVE THOSE THAT EXPERIENCE ANY IMPROVEMENT THERE ARE LIKELY BENEFITING FROM AN EQ ADJUSTMENT THAT HAPPENED TO JIVE WITH THEIR ROOM ACOUSTICS AND OR SOMETHING. IT'S A QUICK AN EASY THING TO TRY BUT YOUR ISSUE MUST BE FAR LESS SEVERE THAN MINE IF IT DOES A DARN THING.

CHANGING THE SAMPLE RATE? GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE BUT HEY, IT TOO IS A QUICK AND EASY THING TO PEAK AT. MINE IS ALWAYS SET THERE SO I KNEW GOING IN THAT IT WASN'T THE SOLUTION FOR ME.

SO HERE ARE THE VARIABLES SURROUNDING MY ISSUE AND FIX. CASTING FROM LAPTOP TO CHROMECAST PLUGGED DIRECTLY INTO ONKYO RECEIVER WITH CRAZY LOW DIALOG. MY SEARCHES ON AN ONKYO FORUM FOR A SOLUTION ONLY CONFIRMED IT'S GOTTA BE SOMETHING SIMPLE. I WAS HUNTING FOR WHERE I CAN ADJUST THE "DIALOG" SETTING THAT DISPLAYS ON MY RECEIVER WHEN CASTING FIRST BEGINS. MINE SAID DIALOG MINUS 8! WELL NO WONDER I CAN'T HERE IT BUT WHERE CAN i CHANGE IT?? ANSWER...NO WHERE. IT'S A SETTING APPARENTLY ENCODED IN DOLBY DIGITAL. DANG. I ALSO WAS GETTING FRUSTRATED THAT MY SEARCHES WERE TURNING UP RESULTS FOR "TURN UP YOUR CENTER CHANNEL" & "REDUCE YOU MAINS" KIND OF STUFF. MAKING IT EXTRA "FUNNY" WAS THAT ASIDE FROM KNOWING THAT WASN'T THE ISSUE, I RUN THE ONKYO MOSTLY AS A PRE-PRO WITH MONOBLOCKS ON MY MAINS ...THAT I LEAVE OFF FOR NORMAL VIEWING OR DIALOG FOCUSED MOVIES...AND WERE OFF. I BRING THE HEAT WITH SOUNDTRACKS AND ACTION :). DEF TECH CLR3000 CENTER AND DIPOLE SURROUNDS ARE JUST FINE WITH MOST EVERYDAY NORMAL WATCHING AND THEY ARE RUNNING OFF THE RECEIVER. (SIDE NOTE-IF YOU EVER SEE A CLR3000 ON EBAY, GET IT! 10" POWERED SUB BUILT IN AND VERY WELL DESIGNED/BUILT. IT'S AWESOME SAUCE)

I DIGRESS. SO I LANDED AT ONKYO FORUM AFTER READING THIS THREAD AND REFUSING TO MESS WITH DRIVERS..YET. ONKYO TAUGHT ME THE DEAL ABOUT THE DOLBY DIGITAL BUT NOTHING FOR MY ISSUE. I CAME BACK TO THIS FORUM AND STARTED LOOKING THROUGH ALL MY SOUND PROPERTIES FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME. LOW AND BEHOLD THERE WAS A TAB I HAD YET TO CHECK.

I OPEN THAT COMMUNICATIONS TAB ON FAR RIGHT AND NOT SO COINCIDENTALLY, "REDUCE THE VOLUME OF OTHER SOUNDS BY BY 80%". SON OF A BISCUIT! (DIALOGUE -8...REDUCE BY 80%..HMMM) SHO NUFF! CLICKED "DO NOTHING" AND VOILA!

I DON'T USE MY LAPTOP WITH COMMUNICATION DEVICES ASIDE FROM USING PUSHBULLET FOR VIEWING TEXTS AND STUFF WHILE WORKING. SO I DON'T KNOW HOW IT GOT SET THAT WAY OR IF IT IS POSSIBLY A DEFAULT WINDOWS SETTING??. IF A DEFAULT, I HOPE THIS HELPS SOME OTHER FOLKS OUT THERE.

IT SHOULD BE STATED IN RETROSPECT THAT I THINK REINSTALLING THE DRIVERS WOULD HAVE FIXED MY ISSUE. I HAVE A SNEAKING SUSPICION THAT DOING SO WOULD LIKELY RESTORE DEFAULTS LIKE "DO NOTHING". THAT'S MY THEORY.

SO IF YOU'RE GETTING OLDER, GRUMPIER, AND CAN BE AS LAZY AS ME, MAKE SURE "DO NOTHING" IS CHECKED BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING PAST VERIFYING YOU AREN'T ON MUTE.

Quiet speakers on Windows is almost always a sign that the correct audio drivers are missing (Realtek, Via, etc.).
I cannot find my original post of about an hour or so ago, but was directed to HP site, located the update for sound device, downloaded it, and now volumn is fine on my HP ENVY m4. Heartfelt thanks to the person who guided me in the right direction.
