Windows 10: Playing a Blu-Ray video disc?
Playing a Blu-Ray video disc?
I bought a Blu-Ray disc drive for my Windows 10 PC. I can see the files with Windows Explorer.
When I insert a Blu-Ray disc, nothing happens.
Windows Media Player does not play it. Does it support Blu-Ray?
Can anyone tell me how to play it?
Thank you for your help.
I've been thinking of getting a Blu-Ray Optical drive and what I have seen is it would be best to get one that has the software with it for playing the Blu-Ray discs or burning to a Blu-Ray disc. I wouldn't need the movie creation part of the software as more interested in playing and data storage. Some of the available programs are not exactly cheap, running over $50 and considerably more.
There are some free programs you can download that will play blue-ray disks for you. One I use is Leawo and it will work on Windows 10.
If your Blu-Ray disc was a commercial release, the chances are that the files are encrypted despite the fact that you can see their directory entries.
VLC player (VideoLan) can play Blu-Ray discs with simple navigation using its own controls (NOT the menus programmed into the disc content itself). If it's a commercial disc you need a decryptor and a matching AACS key database. There are downloadable builds of VLC which have all of the required elements build it (see the info pages and links at labDV - Multimedia software).
Just to be clear: Windows 10 does not include software for viewing Bluray movies.
I don't know which, if any, of the freeware applications mentioned above will work on commercial (encrypted) Blurays. I purchased Nero as burning software (CD/DVD/Bluray), and the version I bought includes a Bluray player. I haven't used it much (prefer the 40" TV), but it works.
In order to watch Blu-ray discs or BD ISO on Windows 10, you must have three things: 1) a Blu-ray disc drive, 2) a Blu-ray movie, and 3) Blu-ray Player Software(Need decrypting Blu-ray function). from Microsoft website, we know that Windows Media Player does not support blu-ray playback. even new windows 10. I have used VLC and ufusoft Blu-ray Player to play blu ray disc movies. So far, with AACS-protected Blu-Ray discs, VLC works fine. for bd+ protected or others not supported blu-ray movies, i finally use UFUSoft Windows 10 Blu-ray Player to play successfully. Hope it helps.

I understand the latest Nero version no longer includes a BluRay player. I now use the free Bluray player Leawo http://www.leawo.com/blu-ray-player/
yes leawo blu-ray player is good!
If you want to play blue ray media your best bet is to consider buying either WinDVD Pro (it has to be the Pro version for blue ray support) or Cyberlink Power DVD Pro or Ultra. Both of these programs are long standing and well known.
