Win 7 had no issue with my TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H653G ATA Device. Win 10 is not detecting it:

I'm having a similar missing DVD drive problem on my system also. Here's some system specs:

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64 bit
Processor: AMD A6-3420M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, AMD64 Family 18 Model 1 Stepping 0
    Processor Count: 4
    RAM: 7656 Mb
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6520G, 512 Mb
    Hard Drives: C: Total - 95367 MB, Free - 53275 MB; D: Total - 540551 MB, Free - 406348 MB;
    Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer Inc., K53Z

The drive worked fine in Windows 7, and it still works in Ubuntu where I used it for watching a movie so its not a hardware issue.

Device Manager shows the DVD drive under Other Devices, but also shows it as "working properly." There is no yellow triangle displayed. I've tried deleting in Device Manager and rebooting and got the same thing. Tried the "Update Driver" option and Win 10 says its already up to date. The drive does not show up in Disk Management or (File) Explorer either. Windows can't seem to "see" it any more.

I discovered a lot of left over garbage from the upgrade to Windows 10, so I did a clean install on a freshly formatted C: partition to make sure nothing survived. Still the same missing DVD drive, though most other things seem to work okay.

I did a Win10 "Reset", which put a fresh copy of it on and everything started working correctly. I have to add all the other programs again, though.

Windows 10 does not recognize cd/dvd drive - fixed

I installed Windows 10 as an upgrade to Windows 8. My Dell laptop does not see the DVD drive. I had no success getting the drive to work in Windows 8 and (maybe of course) it doesnt see it now. This seems to be a common problem I have tried numerous fixes but have not had success. What is the latest and greatest solution?
I logged in Microsoft Account and find this answer. It works for me.

    1. Run Command Prompt as an Administrator.
    2. Copy and Paste following and hit enter
    reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
    3. Type Exit and hit Enter
    4. Reboot the system.

Gave that a shot -- and no joy. The DVD is still listed under "Other Devices" in Device Manager:

Everything else works on the laptop, even sleep mode, so this is more than just a little irritating.

    Update:

Ran some other diagnostics and got some errors, but I'm not certain where to go from here. The laptop had the Windows 10 update, followed by a clean install. Here's the logs from the SFC and DISM utilities attached for anyone who'd like to see them (They are in a zip file.) Basically I got "source files not found" on both of them. Have no idea how to fix this, so any help is appreciated.

I have good news and bad news (Skip Paragraph Below and start with NEW INFORMATION)

The bad news is that SATA CD/DVD drives does not work in Windows 10. The good news is that IDE CD/DVD drives do work! Of course that is good news if you have an IDE drive and a IDE port on the motherboard. I don't think Microsoft will let this one hang for long, as it really going to give them a serious black eye right in the Win 10 release. A SATA CD/DVD drive may at times work in a given computer and most of the time not. That is what happened with the ASUS mother board. The Gigabyte mother board did not work with various SATA CD/DVD drives at all. The problem is with Microsoft and not the hardware. There where various other issues, but over all, I really love Windows 10. I will love it more if Microsoft is snappy with the fixes. I am a bit surprised that this was not caught earlier with all the help they where getting from the beta testers (was anyone listening???) Last thought: I have updated a virtual machine, 10 computers and 2 laptops, and as of now I give Microsoft a positive 80 percent.

NEW INFORMATION!!! (Bad news - Good news)

Note: I was wrong to say Microsoft does not support SATA CD/DVD drives. I did have success upgrading to Windows 10 on other computers with them installed. It's just that this has been a very frustrating experience.

    First the Bad News:

Tried the IDE Drives and they did not work. Strange stuff happening such as when I place a disk in the drive It was treating it something like a USB drive. This was to be a disk read test of an already closed disk, The writing of a disk where far from functional. Albeit I removed the IDE drives from both computers and replaced back the SATA drives.

    Now the Good News:

What I did this time is unplug my SATA Hard Drive and replaced it with the CD/DVD Drive (Plugged HD in another port) - In short it worked on three restarts.
I boldly added the other drive and that worked also. Mind you that I have tried several different ports before but with out swapping with a hard drive. (That was the sometimes works and sometimes not on various restarts)

I tried the same method on the other computer and that was also a success on more then one restart.

It could be my method or it could be a Microsoft update as an update did come through during all that experimenting.

I apologize for all the hassle my first paragraph had caused. I left it as it was interesting about the IDE drive thing.

Thanks, but already tried those things and they didn't work.

Question: Would anyone with a working DVD drive in Win 10 be willing to post the contents of these 2 registry keys?

    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

I noticed some stuff missing from the second key and am interested in seeing what a working config might look like. My DVD is currently showing in Device Manager under Other Devices, and status shows "working properly." No yellow triangles - but the system is acting like it isn't there. This is not a hardware problem since the drive works just fine when I'm running Ubuntu (Linux).
