CD/DVD drive not recognized

I've screen shots of everything in the Device Manager.
Running that driver you input in your last post resolved the Device Manager, unkn device. So, thanks for that! Do you still want the “images of the other events (420 & 430)”?

I upgraded the Chipset driver you also posted. It's funny, but that is usually the first thing I run the install for, from the OEM site, but it wasn't there when I went to the HP site. Again, thanks for that!

So, looking at your comment about the "USB 3.0 extensible host", reminded me that I'd tried to install the 3 USB port replicator files on the HP Support site.
I downloaded them all:
SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP65751 - TITLE: HP Universal Port Replicator Driver
SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP65159 - TITLE: HP 3005pr USB 3.0 Port Replicator Driver
SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP65752 - TITLE: HP 3001pr USB 3.0 Port Replicator Driver

All had failed to install because the .NET Framework 3.5 failed to install.(This included 2.0 and 3.0)
Well, I ran the SP65751 and Lo!, and Behold!, the .NET Framework finally installed. (Kinda wondering if the Chipset install helped with that. Dunno.) Now, the 3 drivers above are throwing errors as pictured below. I've rebooted about 5 times, nothing.

OFF TOPIC! … On a side note, went into the Bios during one of the reboots, and turned off Virtualization. Funny thing, keyboard started working again. Figured I'd somehow messed it up with the cracking open of the Laptop and I was going back in again this weekend, reseating the cables. I'd been using a wireless keyboard in the interim. Hmmmmmm. Food for thought.

Ok, it looks as though the AMD chipset drivers are installed.

If the HP softpaqs are requiring .NET 3.5 - they're pretty old - your machine isn't that old
I'll look around HP and see if there isn't a newer SP - they're terrible at keeping the support site up to date, but so are many other mfrs.

I'm not familiar with USB replicator software drivers, so there's another reason to take it slow.
Do you know for a fact that you need those? Windows is very good now-a-days at supplying HW drivers - of course this is Win10 and there are exceptions. But as a general rule, since Windows 7, I only look for drivers that are either erred out in dev mgr or causing an issue.

You might try this - in Pgms & Feats press Turn Windows Features on or off - then select .NET 3.5 (SB the 1st one in the list). That might stop the errors from being thrown - not sure ... it might already be turned on.
If it were my machine, I think I'd hold off hoping that a newer USB replicator set is available or uninstall those SPs - Dev mgr didn't flag them as errors did it?

Nope, don't need the evt logs for 420 & 430 - the device is no longer unknown - right? Finding that driver wasn't that hard, I searched for the hardware Id you provided, and then looked on the device support page - nothing! - but searching HP gave me the answer so I could give you the answer

Sooooo , let's return to the optical drive ... I think that's where we started.

Try this:
Launch an elevated Command prompt and type the following commands

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
SFC /SCANNOW

Note: There's a space before each slash / in the command line

DISM uses Windows Update, so it's helpful be connected, otherwise I think it just uses the local WU information already on your machine, again ... not certain about that.
SFC runs locally on your machine and puts system files in the correct location if needed. (SFC might be redundant - not sure if DISM updates only the store or also updates any other reference location - technically they should be the same)

If either reported any errors, please let members know. They'll tell you when they finish.
The log is C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log and it might be useful to see - but only if there are errors.

.net was checked, but not the two sub menu’s.
I enabled/checked those and rebooted.

With Run as Admin Cmd Prompt, ran the following:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth


Once completed, ran SFC /SCANNOW

I looked at the CBS log - thanks. The repairs all seem to be language pack related, but the log was cut off.

How about putting the entire CBS folder into a compressed folder (zip) and attaching that to a post - thanks. This has all of the archived logs in cab files. (right click the CBS folder and select Send to->Compressed folder. It should end up on your desktop.

Here's what I suggest going forward.

Uninstall the three HP USB Replicator Softpaqs
Turn off .NET 3.5 in Pgms & Feats - Turn Windows features on or off
restart the machine.

This sets the box back to when we started (except that the unknown device has it's driver (now known to be the wireless button driver).

After the restart:
Make sure that device installation settings allow Windows Update to provide drivers
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers
Right click the computer icon and select Device Installation settings

Then run Windows Update - who knows, it might be that simple and we might get lucky.

Do you have the install media on a DVD or thumb drive - I might ask you to do a Refresh, but not yet.

Tried all of this... Drivers on both my internal drive and external USB CD/DVD drive are not functioning. They were working for a bit and now they stopped again. I fixed it previously by uninstalling and reinstalling, but neither of those are working now.

Okay, I could not figure out how to uninstall the Port Replicator stuff, could not find it anywhere. So, I did the refresh. Still no DVD Drive.
I reinstalled the drivers without any issues, and thanks to you, the wireless button driver.

I haven't reformatted old drive, so I think I'll shove it in here and poke around. Do you want anything off the old drive? Screen shots of HW or DM? (Hardware or Device Manager)

The .net Framework is still disabled. I'd disabled it before the refresh. I refreshed form DVD.
I didn't install any Port Replicator stuff, but I know the files are in here, rattling around.

Thanks for the help! I'm not giving up, just have to burn some things and get going on another project. I can reformat this HDD if needed, and reinstall fresh. I'm not afraid of hard. It's stupid that scares me! LOL

Side note: You're running 10.0.074, right? That is essentially the "stable" release of Win10 - it's the only available ISO.
but ... yesterday MS released 10.0.130 (replacing the previous FAST ring rls 122). I'm downloading it now and will convert the ESD to an ISO:

Most members can just upgrade through Windows Update, but since I install Win10 to a VHD, I HAVE to decrypt the ESD to create an ISO ... and do a clean install. Windows won't upgrade to a VHD - I'll probably change my install to a partition instead of a VHD as we near the Current Branch (RTM) release.

Think about changing your Windows Update to the Fast ring and updating to 130 - I'll still look at the data you provided, but it might be faster to see if MS fixed it in 130. Your choice, I'm here all week

Okay. The DVD player is recognized and working.
It was a combination of RTFM, ID10T, and PICNIC errors.
When I tried removing the MOBO to shove an extra 8 GB of RAM into the system, I either messed up a cable or a connection. So earlier, when I cracked it open, put the old HDD in, and no DVD, I knew it was my mistake. Checked the M (in RTFM) and repositioned a wire I misplaced and then I reseated the Optical Drive cable. Whichever seems to have resolved it.

Bill, you were so generous with your time! I didn't want to admit this was my mistake, but it was only fair to let you, and everyone else, know.

I'm not concerned how it happened, I just glad you figured it out.

This was nothing, I spent 3 weeks helping one member with an external drive issue and it was worth every minute when he said
- Got it fixed, backing up my data now.
