The solution to this problem is well simple..have to shut down your computer and switch port sata drive connector optica..power on again, and will have the icon for your optical drive and can give you normally use ..

Only problem is that didn't fix it either. The DVD is still in "other devices" in Device Mgr, but the properties show it correctly identified and that its supposed to be working.
For those suggesting swapping cables: my system is a laptop, and its not an option. The drive works in Ubuntu (Linux) just fine, so there's no hardware issue. It is visible in the BIOS settings too. Windows 10 just refuses to see the drive.

This was in a post from another user that had problems and it worked on my asus a53z laptop with the same dvd drive UJ8B0.
Ok I was able to figure this out on my laptop and fix it. I noticed that besides my DVD drive missing that my SSD was very slow like a slow hard drive. It was indeed caused by the generic SATA controller driver Windows 10 installed for the AMD SATA Controller in my system. I had downloaded the latest chipset drivers from AMD before but I didn't notice the installer didn't update the SATA controller driver. I had to do it manually in Device manager.
So for anyone else with an AMD based system that's having this problem, give this a try.
Download the latest AMD Windows 10 Chipset drivers at http://www2.ati.com/drivers/amd-cata...in8.1-win7.exe
Run the installer which will extract the files to your hard drive and may update some other drivers. When it's done, reboot your system.
Open device manager by right clicking "Start" and then click "Device Manager". Look under "IDE ATA\ATAPI Controllers" and then right click on "Standard SATA AHCI Controller" and click "Update Driver Software". Click on "Browse my computer for driver software" and then browse to where the AMD installer extracted the files. It should be "C:\AMD". Make sure the box for "Include subfolders" is checked then click on "Next". It should update the driver and rename it to "AMD SATA Controller". Click on "Close" and then reboot your system.
That's it, after rebooting your CD/DVD drive should show up and work again. I hope this helps.
Thank you very much! That fixed it for the most part, though device manager locked up on me but rebooting again cleared it up. We'll see how things go from here though.
I thought I had installed the new drivers when I ran the installer, but I guess not. Once the AMD SATA Controller showed up the drive became visible again. Now VLC can find and play DVD's again.
Added Microsoft Community to my collection of troubleshooting pages too. :)
Update:
This fix worked - but only once, then the dvd disappeared again and I think it may be time to start a new thread because something else is clearing going on here. I'll do some more checking today and see what happens.

I have a Toshiba Portege R830 PT321A 01K00201 with a Matshita UJ8A2ES DVD drive.
in Win 7 it worked fine but since installing Win 10 it has completely disappeared from my system.

Well . . . its fixed for the most part, as you can see from the above posts. :) Part of the problem was the SATA controller driver on my Asus a53z laptop. Windows 10 used a generic driver, but loading a new driver got the DVD/RW recognized. It works now, but only if I put a disc in the drive and then boot into Windows 10. Then the system sees it. It does not see the empty dvd drive at all. (Yes, the "hide empty drives" setting is cleared in File Explorer.)
So, I'm considering started a new thread on this and see if we can help some others along the way.
I have the same problem and I also have a message every time I boot up that the Control Center didn't install, and I don't have any list of IDE ATA/ATAPI devices in Device Manager. If I can't fix this problem I will have to go back to using Windows 8.1.
Yes I'm thinking of rolling back to Windows 7. Does anyone know how to save the Win 10 download in case I change my mind?
I'm having no luck with getting my DVD player to work plus there are a couple of things that are annoying me about Win 10 already. Such as;
1. Not being able to easily locate commonly used programs such as paint without having to search for the exe file
2. Not being able to easily 'pin' files like commonly used spreadsheets to the start menu
3. The superfluous screen at the very beginning
I'm sure all these things are easily fixed, but Win 7 is going to have extended support until 2020, by which stage I'll probably be getting a new laptop anyway.
My DVD player doesn't exist at all in device manager, but it's there in the bios. Strangely, it's sort of there as a 'blank page' in file manager under 'devices and drives';
