really happy with this solution.
I've now ordered a SECOND server to replace several old desktops -- I'll run Esix (free) on it as a HYPERVISOR (or perhaps I'll play with the server version of HYPER-V) and run some VM's. I can get a slightly more powerful CPU and with 16GB X 2 memory you can use 32 GB RAM in this even though the spec says 16GB is the max -- the CPU DOES support 32 GB RAM.
I really love the small footprint and quiet running of this server - and cheap to run -- some people looking for replacement desktops should have a look at these - surprisingly cheap and robust !!.
I need 1 X XP VM for my Vinyl cutting record business, 1 X W7 VM for accessing corporate stuff and their VDI / vpn's and 2 X W10 Vm for daily use and testing. Plenty of USB ports for USB passthru for the VM's and 4 X 4 TB array should be more than enough -- lovely to sling away 4 X tower PC's and replace by a single box about the size of a subwoofer speaker. (You can stack on top of each other too if you like ).
The NAS box I've just built is performing far better than expected and was really easy to set up (switch off the haedware RAID controller if using Linux otherwise you won't see the HDD's).
