I have a USB zip drive that I plugged into my Windows 10 machine and it just works. I also have an internal ATAPI zip drive I installed on a machine with Xubuntu Linux, and it just works. However, I haven't been able to get a parallel zip drive working since I upgraded from XP - and I read somewhere at the time that Windows 7 no longer supported LPT zip drives.

Seibertron, if you still have disks you want to read from, send me an email (lordpeyre at yahoo.com) and I can read the data off them. I enjoy this kind of stuff.

Hi Seibertron! I just saw your post at Zip Drives on Windows 10 - Page 2 - Windows 10 Forums and maybe I can help. I have a working zip drive and if you still have disks you want to get the data from, I can get the data for you.

    Cheers,

Did anyone get the parallel port version of the Zip Drive 100 working on Windows 10? I just received a brand new one from eBay, unaware of the drive being a parallel port.

My mother passed away in January and she had about 40 of these Zip disks still, which I would like to transfer all of her photos from those disks and backup on DVD and external hard drives so that I have all of her photos finally.

I also bought a parallel to usb cord on Amazon just now in hopes that I can figure out the driver issue. Fortunately, the zip drive is brand new so I've got the original software if I need to get drivers from those disks.

If no one figured this out yet, I'll let you know my progress in a few days after I get the parallel to usb wire from Amazon.

Worst case scenario, I have an old PC that runs Vista at my warehouse still that I never parted with, and I might possibly still have my old Windows 98 machine in my attic. I'll be able to get these photos hopefully one way or another, but I'd prefer to do it on my MSI GT72VR 7RD Dominator if possible instead of one of those old relics / boat anchors!
Seibertron, ever get that parallel port Zip drive working on Windows 10?

believe it or not I do have an old external 100Mb zip drive that connects with a parallel LPT cable (non-usb) but it's in my garage (with a 100Mb zip disk inside), along with an old 250Mb internal IDE zip drive that I pulled from a relative's old Dell Optiplex GX100 computer many years ago. I'll have to connect the 100Mb zip drive to an old Intel D101GGC motherboard, which does have an internal parallel port at the back

I'll let you know in a few days if the 100mb zip drive I have works on Win10

    aww nuts

it seems that I may have thrown the external iomega 100mb parallel zip drive away several years ago before my family & I moved to a new house on a different street. I now recall why I tossed that one away; it was because it had a broken plastic glass on top of the drive although it was still working. I thought I brought the 100mb zip drive with me when moving but it seems I was wrong

so it looks like the only zip drive I have now is the internal 250Mb zip drive that connects thru an IDE/PATA cable and that one does work with Win10 (more accurately I'm using win10 ltsb 2016 x64) as I tried it myself

edit: I have an old 100Mb zip disk that I can fully access with the IDE based 250mb zip drive (copying, moving & deleting files on that 100mb zip disk)

attached is screenshot of the Iomega 250Mb zip drive ata device in device manager:

I posted this (Iomega USB Zip Drive) at dpreview.com (digital photography) after being loudly attacked for saying it would work under Windows 10. About 2 weeks later I found the drive while cleaning out my garage. Sure enough it works without issue.

    Hello!
I also have a working Iomega ZIP-100 parallel drive. This worked OK up to Windows 7 with the XP drivers (in Windows Vista/7 32-bit) or the XP 64-bit drivers (in Windows Vista/7 64-bit). All I had to do is copy the driver files (DLL etc) in a folder and then manually update the drivers from Device Manager with those in the folder. For this to work I first had to configure the parallel port in legacy mode (see the LPT1: properties in Device Manager) and to use any Interrupt assigned to the port. I had configured it to ECP mode in BIOS.

This method does not work in Windows 8/10 either 32 or 64-bit (the ZIP drive is not detected). The workaround is to install Windows XP or Vista or 7 in VMWare and share the LPT1: port in VMWare so Windows can detect the drive. Then manually load the drivers and that's it! In Windows XP you can even install Iomega's official software to use with the drive. Then copy-paste from the ZIP disk to a shared folder and vice versa to exchange files between the guest (XP) and the host (Windows 10).

However, it would be much more convenient if the ZIP drive was detected successfully and manually installed Iomega's 32-bit or 64-bit drivers found here: VOGONS Vintage Driver Library Does anyone knows what changed in Windows 8/10 parallel port drivers (or configuration) and the ZIP drive is no longer detected? Could be replace the Windows 10 drivers with the Windows 7 drivers for the parallel port to make it work? Which files do we need?

Thank you in advance for any help!
