IDT HD Audio Codec adds jack but loses Line In?

Somewhere between October 17, 2015 & today (January 14, 2016) my system lost the ability to input audio from a vinyl source to Audacity. The October date was when I last input from vinyl (John Mayall's Turning Point album). At that time the Windows Sound's Recording Devices listing showed the Line In for IDT High Definition Audio CODEC as plugged in. Today, even though phono output from my amp is plugged in to Line In, Windows Sound says "Not plugged in". I have confirmed that there is nothing wrong with the cables or other links in the chain.

Instead, there is now a new Recording Device called Stereo Mix as the default device. Its properties claim Jack information is "insideMobileLid Analog Jack". Interesting idea given that this is a desktop system and this jack has never appeared before. I tried reverting the driver from its most recent iteration to its previous (circa 2013) but the jack remained and Line In continued to be reported as not plugged in. I suspect a Windows update, but a system restore to mid-December 2015 did nothing but take a lot of time. I will revert to the present.

Any clues as to what's going on?

I've restored a system image from October 2015. The Line In is shown as plugged in. The Stereo Mix is there, I must have forgotten it ever existed. The net, though, is that some update or application other than the audio driver has caused the Line In to disappear. I will, however, restore the system image from today.

Not sure what prompted me to look at BIOS settings, but I noticed a setting Integrated Audio was disabled. That's been the setting since Day One. I changed the setting to Enabled and recovered the ability to record. Line In was shown as plugged in.

So somehow the computer learned on its own to pay attention to a previously ignored setting. Had to have been an update somewhere along the line.

The worst thing about the Windows 10 update was when Microsoft had the nerve to ask me the next day how the Windows 10 installation went. This thread has allowed me to get my 5.1 jacks working again instead of trying to pull 5.1 sound through the green jack only.
I still do not have my on-board wireless problem solved.
When I use my on-board wireless adapter my Speedtest comes in at only 2-4 MBS
When I took the usb network adapter off of my windows vista computer plugged it into this computer and retested, the speeds were 30-50 mbs.
The answer I gave to Microsoft in response to the question was: Please contact me two weeks from now so that I have had a chance to find out which programs are no longer working and what hardware issues I am fighting with to resolve.
Of course I received no reply from Microsoft.
I think they are trying to revive the "I Hate Microsoft Club" out of the ashes after they killed Windows XP

Glad this could help. Twenty years ago I was campus tech support at a small college in Nevada. I learned then that the MS slogan should be "At Microsoft, quality is job 1.1."
