    WD40 + ASUSLaptop = Need major suggestions

K, so my wifes boss' husband apparently spilled WD-40 all over their one week old ASUS Laptop. The screen/lid was closed when it happened. Model: D550CA-BH31
Since then, the monitor will not react at all. It stays in an unpowered state. They have sought assistance, but ASUS (according to her) is saying there is no way for them to help as this is outside the warranty. Understandable.
The laptop itself seems to be turning on fine and running. They sought the assistance of someone that knows anything about computers. I took it for the weekend thinking that maybe I could output video to VGA or HDMI and just get a view that way, and the pursue replacement parts, but Im not getting any response from either. The computer looks crisp. If there was WD-40 on the computer, I don't see any damage or residue to the video output ports or keyboard/base. It looks like only the screen itself was affected. Do you have to manually toggle video output with ASUS laptops?

I think external monitors are recognized as soon as the OS starts loading - you shouldn't have to set anything (at least I don't on mine, but it's not an ASUS). Just a WAG, but perhaps it also leaked down through the hinges and hit the ribbon cable that runs from the MB to the screen, and that's why there's no response. May have to bite the bullet, part it out on eBay and get a new one. I'd remove the HDD before you do that though.

On ASUS, it's the Fn+F7 keys and Fn+F8 keys, try those. Here is the reference page from the manual for that model:

No telling where else that WD-40 got into. If no external monitor is found. Her boss needs to tell their husband to fork over money for a new laptop and keep liquids away from electronics.
