windows 10 detecting wrong display adaptor

I am having a problem with the windows 10 upgrade service.
It keeps telling me my display adaptor is a Matrox adaptor but the actual adaptor is an intel motherboard adaptor.
No Matrox adaptor has ever been fitted (I have had the computer for 15 years (various new motherboards etc) and never have used a Matrox adaptor.

It wont let me upgrade as it says the adaptor is not supported.

    Any idea whats going on?

Try updating the chipset drivers, to make sure your adapter is detected properly, then update the graphics drivers.

Download Aida64 and then go Computer->Summary. The display adapter reported there is your real adapter. Post a screenshot to help you find drivers.

Are you getting this through Windows Update? Your alternatives would be to use the Media Creation Tool or the ISO files from Techbench. See the tutorials for how to use those.

Matrox? Weird. I think they've been out of the desktop graphics market for something like 10 years.

Use Aida64 to see a summary of your hardware and post it here to help you finding drivers.

Found the problem - I forgot the emulator settings I used a while ago. On clearing them the problem went away!

I have been advised by Microsoft that if all else fails a re-install of Windows 7 clears all this anyway. Of course you could lose other info as well.
