Other than benchmark numbers, do you folks notice any quantifiable difference running these as your OS drive.
My newest desktop is from 2009. I do everything mostly on laptops now. So, I was just curious about these new M2 drives that I haven't yet had a chance to use as I don't have any mobos that support them.
To date I have been just playing around with them in various raid arrays. Got my new system up and running for the past week.
In a couple of days I will be using one for OS and one for storage. I can better answer question after some time with one 950 as OS.
I have read some say they see a difference and others say they do not. Time will tell.
Thanks for your thoughts, all i know is my board will not exceed 10 Gb/s regardless of those boards that are capable of more Gb/s like the Z170, even if there not to the max of 32 Gb/s that it can with Samsung 950 Pro, they are more capable then mine. I am fine way i am for now, was only a thought as i have fairly new Samsung Pro 850 SSD.It is not "capped" at 10 G/s. The 32 GB/s, this is the limit of the pcie interface on some mobo's, not the actual drive itself. The advertised speed of the 512 GB version is 2500 mb/s read and 1500 mb/s write. You will not come close to saturating that with a 10 GB/s interface, let alone a 32 GB/s one.
Here is a pic of a 60 Gb file transfer between two 950 pros (512 gb versions) on my Asrock Extreme 7+, both drives are in M2 sockets and using the Samsung NVMe drivers...

I am not obviously saying you should run out and buy the drive. But don't get caught up in 10 Gb/s versus 32 Gb/s link speeds, either would suffice to get maximum performance from the 950.
