    Hi,

It does make for an appreciable difference though.
However, once the OS has been installed with the bios set to IDE mode (or legacy, depending on bios), it's pretty tricky to make it accept the change. I ended up reinstalling the OS, all the tricks I found on the web just made the aging machine refuse to boot.

Anyhow, I guess we'll all be talking PCIe drives within a couple of years. I'm saving up for an Intel 750 as I write.

That said, Gary obtains a pretty high WINSAT score all things considering.
@aztec506 ; Thx for sharing. Looks as if we have similar stories, Velociraptor is retired here too. Great little thing as it was back then though.

    Cheers,
Thanks, I don't want to take that chance. I was just wondering why I only have 232gB of usable space? Is it the same reason that on a 1TB HD you really do not get the full 1024Gb's?

    Yes: 250,000,000,000/1024/1024/1024 = 232.83 GB

    Likewise, 1,000,000,000,000 bytes = 931.32 GB

Yup Gary, as long as you like the performance of your new SSD and everything is running fine, I see no reason to change anything either. "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" :)

My Samsung 250gb with windows 10 pro, right now only uses around 22gb of space. That will increase sometime in the future, depending on when I install Office.

Gee I am using 142 gB on mine. I have Office 2010 installed plus a game that is using 65 gB which I will be removing soon but I will be replacing it with Black OPs III, so it might be a wash. I alos have 4 I TB WD hard Drives that I can use but I would prefer to just use the 850 EVO.

I try to keep as much stuff off my SSD as possible, on my other computer, with the Intel SSD 240gb I only use 43gb's and that one has office 2013 installed. I don't have any games, matter of fact I delete any game that even comes with Windows 10. :)
But that's just me, as I never have played any games on my computers since....forever. lol The more space you can leave open on your SSD the better and longer it will run. I keep like all my downloads on my 2nd drive, and all my image backups on their too.
My 2nd drive is 1TB drive. not an ssd thou. Which is still pretty darn fast itself. sata 3 drive. Your SSD will be fine Gary, I am just a little anal when it comes to my SSD drives. I'm very protective of them. :) Actually the only reason I have the one Samsung SSD is because it came with this used computer I bought, or I would have ended up getting another Intel SSD. I got this used desktop with a 27" monitor included for a STEAL, could not resist not buying it, only 1 year old, both monitor and computer, and new would have sold for over 1800.00 bucks with all the upgrades this guy put in. Has like 8 usb 3.0 slots, 6 2.0 slots, monitor is great, never had a 27" one before. I got it for just over 800.bucks Gary!!!!! Still can't believe what I paid for it. :)

I priced the Computer and Monitor on New Egg, the computer alone still goes for 1499.00 today, without the ssd and monitor.

I am a Gamer particularly COD games. I will keep just the 850 EVO in my PC. I will use one of the 1TB WD Black drives in my External E-SATA enclosure for backups. Download, I remove after install. When I am not online, I am playing a game most of the time. Yes you got a great deal on that. I know a guy in Spain that has 3 monitors and three GTX 980 Video cards. He is ex German Special Forces and I wish I had his setup. He is who wrote what is in my sig.
