I think I have the right thread here.
Before I try a windows 10 install on this rig I thought I might get some advice first. I'm running an ASUS m2nsli Mobo. Athlon 64 2x CPU, 4gb memory with another 4gb available, and an EVGA Nvidia 9400 video card. I know the setup is dated. Currently running Vista 32 bit. I have the newest BIOS drivers installed as well as the newest video drivers. The AMD chipset drivers won't load as the new drivers are for 64 bit systems. A, will this system even run Win 10? B. Since I can't load 64 bit drivers for the chip set (7xxx series) is there any point in trying the upgrade? Not a gamer just a guy.

I have an ASUS M2N68-AM SE2, which has a NVIDIA nForce 630a / GeForce 7025 chipset, running Windows 10 x64 with no issues. All stock drivers supplied by Windows update. AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6GHz CPU and 4GB 2GB X 2 Ultra PC5400 DDR2 667MHz Memory. It's not fast but I wouldn't describe it as slow either. Average speed for a PC with a regular spinner hard drive in it.

I'm not sure what drivers you refer to.

The M2N SLI uses an AMD CPU, but an nVidia nForce 560 SLI chipset.

Asus lists support for the board through Windows 8.1 X64. I believe that if the board can run 8.1 X64, it can also run Win 10 X64. Asus has no chipset drivers for download for 8.1, which suggests that they're included with Windows.

I'd say that you may be able to get 10 to run on the system, although you may have some extra effort installing drivers. If you decide to play, I recommend that you image your existing installation first. That may eliminate a lot of trouble if 10 doesn't work to your satisfaction.

I missed that, yeah, you want the NVidia chip-set drivers, not the AMD chip-set drivers. Windows installs them automatically for my M2N64 and M4N64. I don't have to install any drivers manually for either system.

If you currently have Vista 32-bit you cannot just upgrade to 64-bit. You need to backup all your data and then format and do a clean installation of Windows 10 64-bit. If you have Vista 64-bit, you cannot upgrade directly to Windows 10, you must first upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit (similar or higher version) and then to Windows 10 64-bit. When you finally have Windows 10, avoid the AMD Catalyst drivers, it might give you a black screen with the white mouse arrow from which you can do nothing. For the same reason avoid searching drivers with Windows Update. When installing Windows 10 uncheck the update option and make sure you are not connected to the internet, just in case. Prefer the latest AMD Crimson drivers, they worked for me.

@Toasterman , with a Clean install it may work , many win7 Drivers Work but you do realise it is not free from Vista>win10 I assume ?

There are people still working on Nforce Drivers other than M$oft too, there is Issues with Raid under AU though apparently.

Thanks for the info. I had planned on having to wipe the HDD and do a clean install. I have copied all of the files I want to keep to an external drive. I have the disk for vista so reverting to it if needed won't be to much of a problem. Purchased win10 on disk as well so I have that covered. The Crimson drivers where the drivers in question, I should have been more clear on that. So it sounds like there's nothing to do but do it. Thanks again.

Hi Toast, one last thing ....... I would install MAcrium Reflect , make a complete Image of Vista (the computer) to your external Drive so if there is an issue you can get Vista back up and running in about 20 minutes by Restoring the Image you made from the Ext. Drive..

If the Crimson drivers didn't work as expected try an earlier Crimson version or the Catalyst drivers. It's a good idea to make a full backup with Macrium Reflect or other application so if anything goes wrong you can restore it. Also I noticed the new Windows 10 Anniversary Edition has System Restore disabled by default, so there are no restore points to go back to! Before you install any drivers make sure you enable System Restore first and create a restore point! If anything goes wrong you can always boot with the Windows 10 DVD or USB and go back to that working restore point.

I have found most Win10 Builds Disable System Restore , not just AU , so it is important to check it's on for sure....
