Actually, that shouldn't happen, Fox. When you upgrade to Windows 10 RTM from Windows 7 or 8.1, you're supposed to be able to do a clean install as many times as you want forever. Microsoft supposedly has the "footprint" of your system, which automagically activates Windows 10 clean installs.
they dont if you did a hdd wipe, I had to do that because gnome completely erased windows 10

Something's wrong, then. It's all over the Internet. I searched "Windows 10 clean install after free upgrade" and found quite a few, from Neowin to Cnet, etc.

I asked a microsoft guy to activate it for me and he told me I had to do a full install of 7 to get back to 10.

Replacing or wiping a HDD should not affect the activation. Only when you replace the MB. Sometimes it takes a while to re-activate so you just have to wait.

In my experience, Microsoft guys aren't always right. :) However you did it, I'm guessing you got it activated? And that's the cat's meow.

Final diagnosis of my Lexar Jump Drive is that it's dead.

I had five gurus all together on Skype trying to help me get it going again, but it was pronounced dead. No biggie though, because it was only an 8 GB one.

What was accomplished was that another person's 64 GB Flash Drive was revived. :) For once, it's good to say, "Better him than me." :)
