I followed your actions with my "old S500" and it works fine. I was concerned as I downloaded the updates that followed the initial download, thought they might be a scansnap trap, but it worked!! I did not mess with downloading anything but the installer. Once you have the scan popup you can save it where you want. I did first install my good old Adobe Acrobat 9 standard and it works fine (so far) with scansnap and windows 10.
Note: after I restarted my computer and open the scanner cover the scansnap icon did not appear, so I went to programs/scansnap manager and that brought the icon up.
tl;dr: Try the S1500 ScanSnap Manager software if they above doesn't work for you.
While I've used this method successfully in the past (TYVM!!), it didn't work when I downloaded the latest ix500 driver after my HDD died. I did get it figured out though, and it's working fine now.
-- Installed the S510 version of the ScanSnap Organizer
-- Installed ABBYY from my original CD's. Need to have the base ABBYY software installed to apply their patch.
-- Installed the update to ABBYY from their website ( ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap ). NOTE: There's different patches for the various versions of ABBYY they have distributed. That link is for the version that came with my S510.
-- Installed the ScanSnap Manager software 5.5L10 for the S1500 scanner. While the S1500 is also discontinued, the ScanSnap Manager is newer (5.5 vs. 4.5 for my S510) and -- most important -- it supports Win10.
( ScanSnap Manager (V5.5L10) Setup Program-S1500 / S1500M - Fujitsu Global )
Good luck! My S510 is still running nicely now!
Thanks so much for this!! I tried the other suggestions but couldn't get thing working reliably. Using a modified version of your steps I got my S510 working with Windows 10. Here are myt steps:
1) Installed ScanSnap Manager 4.2 + 4.2L31 update (which I had saved from a few years ago).
2) Installed ScanSnap Organizer 3.2 + 3.2L20 updated (which I had saved from a few years ago).
3) Installed ScanSnap Manager 5.5L10 for S1500 from the link you posted above.
4) Rebooted.
5) Specified that the software should run in Windows 7 compatibility mode.
And it's all working. No need for separate ABBYY installations.
Thank you!
I originally found my way to the site & posts because my ScanSnap ix500 was reporting that it was in use when it wasn't. In the course of trying to solve this problem (which I did ) by other means I saw Hobbitt's tip on getting the S510 scanner to work with Win 10. I too was told that the S510 was not supported by Fujitsu anymore. I spent my bucks to get the ix500 but kept my S510 ….I tried Hobbitt's tip and it worked like a champ. I am really ________ that Fijitsu didn't tell me this and I could have saved big bucks because the S510 was still working great. But again thanks Hobbitt great tip!!!
Thanks Everyone for posting your suggestions. I finally moved to Win10 from Win7. One of the last pieces of equipment to get working was the ScanSnap S500. It took several tries but it's working on the new Win10 laptop and with OCR even.
I ended up installing from the Fujitsu download site ScanSnap Software Downloads : Fujitsu Global
ScanSnap Organizer V5.5L32 for the S500
ScanSnap Manager 5.5 for the S1500
The scanner was powered off during the installation of software. After the software was installed and laptop rebooted, I opened the lid of the scanner and Windows 10 recognized the scanner. The interface of the Organizer is dated but the scanner and OCR work fine. I didn't need to install Abbey FineReader at all.
Thanks, this save me hundreds of dollars, much appreciated.
I set up an account for this forum just so I could say THANK YOU! The iX 500 software works perfectly!!! I had the scanner unplugged when I installed it, and the firmware wouldn't update. Thank you for your help.
Moved my scansnap to a Win10 computer. I tried the different methods but for whatever reason the scansnap tray logo wouldn't activate when the cover was opened or turned on. But the hardware is detected and active and connects when the cable is plugged in or turned on so some kind of glitch.
I got it to consistently go active by setting the compatibility mode of the .exe file to Windows XP and creating the shortcut to open it that way.
Just glad that it is working still. Hope this is helpful!
