Please notice the motherboard is still in the case
Well; according to the install guide for the 212; it appears you do have to remove the board to attach the standoffs to the underside part of the board holes where the stock fan goes because that is the only way to get the "nuts" on to the standoffs so the fan will not fall.
it appears though this person already has the mb out of the case which from other videos Ive looked at so far is the only way to get the backplate on and to secure the bolts to it. So I am gonna look for another one that doesnt require a backplate and doesnt require taking the mb out because that is what seems to be the case here.
Feel free to do whatever you want. But, the only purpose of the manufacturers creating a motherboard cut out in the back of the case is so you do not have to remove the motherboard to change CPU Coolers. It works quite well. Take it from someone who has done it numerous times.
That is why they have the cut out back there when you slide the opposite side of the case open there is a slot for you to put on the heatsink back plate. The only time you would put the heatsink on without it being in the case is when you are replacing the motherboard with a new one, like i did that is when i just put it on and then put it in the case. But other then that i use the cut out on the other side of the case.
Indeed. That is exactly what the components section guy told me at frys when i was there earlier today. He too said that unless my case has a cutout on one side of it I will have to take the board out completely to install a better cpu cooler; which at this point is not gonna happen because besides being a royal PITA; its just too time consuming etc to have to deal with having to take all my components off; disconnect everything, unscrew everything etc just to get it out. So for right now i am stuck in a corner because my case does not have rear access to the board w out taking it out completely. And oh yea; it looks like I would have clearance issues no matter what I do it seems like with where the cpu is and where the ram slots are and because of this it may not be possible to install a better cooler and i may have to wait until i get the $ to get a new system board that hopefully has more clearance between the ram slots and the cpu slot. So for now Im just gonna have to deal with the stock intel fan as I dont really have a choice at this point.
I used to own that same case. It has a CPU cut out. Take the rear panel off and you will see it.
