M.2 to PCIe adaptor sata question

Greetings, I'm putting together a 'last' upgrade to my AM4 build on a b450 m/b. I also thought about another m.2 drive, except the board only supports one. My choices are get a higher capacity drive and partition it. Or an adaptor card for the secondary PCIe slot. The current m.2 takes up rather eliminates sata port. Remaining sata ports are used by ssd's for storage / Linux. I could sacrifice another sata port if need be. But my question is will adding an NVMe M.2 SSD to PCIe adaptor to the second PCIe slot consume or affect any remaining sata ports?
I appreciate the help in advance.

I don't see where adding the PCIe card will affect the SATA ports. The only way to know for sure is to install the card and see.

I have an ASUS Prime X370-Pro motherboard. It also only has one M.2 slot. I added a PCIe card so I could use a second M.2 NVME SSD. I started with one M.2 NVME SSD and three SATA HDDs but now I have two M.2 NVME SSDs and no HDDs.

PCIe adaptors are independant from the chipset and have no influence on the SATA-Ports.

On my MB, the M.2 shares the PCIe lane with SATA 5 (last out of 0, 1, ...5) so when one is in use, the other can't be.
You should read the MB manual
