Scanning from Canon MP495 to Libre Office

I have a Canon MP495 connected wirelesslly and it works well as a printer. If I use it to scan to Libre Office Impress (I use this program because unlike Powerpoint it allows direct scanning) I can do so using Windows WIA. If I try to use Canon's Scangear I can do a preview ok but it will not do a full scan. I then find that I cannot close Scangear. The only way to get it closed is to open Task Manager and close it from there. Scangear looks to be a versatile way of scanning with more options than the basic Windows WIA and I would like to use it. I also have an Epson and HP printers which allow direct wireless scanning with no trouble. Can anyone explain what is wrong here and how I might fix it?

    Hi A Gray

I don't use Libre anymore but it could be that Libre is a 64 bit Program. Quote from Canon below concerning Scangear:

    Caution

This TWAIN scan driver is a 32bit driver which can only be used with 32bit-compatible applications running on 64bit OS.
Please contact your PC maker or application software maker for more details.
It's easy enough to test. Just use Scangear directly or any 32 bit program you may have with scanning abilities to scan something.
I do a lot of outdoor wildlife\marinelife photography and i use Vuescan. It's not free but has many options i require.

Something else occurred to me that you may want to try providing scangear has a default image viewer option.
With Vuescan, I can set Photoshop as it's default image viewer. When I scan\save, it auto launches Photoshop with the image ready for editing.
I just set the path to Photoshop:

You would set yours to impress.exe

    Anyway, just a thought.

This is what I get with a Canon TS5150 and Scangear, wireless network connected. On a Windows 10 and a Windows 11 laptop.

    Windows 10
    OpenOffice 4.1.15 (32 bit) Impress.
Same as you get, Preview with ScanGear but no Scan and unable to exit except by Task Manager.
WIA works by going to Scan > Request...

    IrfanView (32 bit)
    TWAIN ScanGear does not open.
    WIA is OK

    Windows 11
    IrfanView (32 bit)
TWAIN Scangear and WIA, neither opens.

ScanGear itself works on both Windows 10 and 11, that is the way I use it, so no problem.

The TWAIN driver is from Canon and resides in the twain_32 folder.

Canon driver/Twain/Application/Windows 10/11 problems, no idea... never mind a fix.

Just a comment about LibreOffice [pretty much the same as OpenOffice] on my Wireless Notebook, I can Insert a Scan from a Network-attached device, HP OfficeJet Pro.

Thanks for your reply, sorry to have taken so long to respond this was due to family issues. I take the point about Scangear only being suitable for 32 bit systems ( mine is a 64bit). I have another scanner for more detailed or complex scans. I'll just continue with WIA with the Canon

ScanGear itself works on 64 bits W10 or W11.

The fact that the application links to that directly not working/problematic is rather trivial.
Just use LibreOffice and ScanGear separately.

The options in the WIA method are very minimal.

It sounds frustrating that Scangear isn't working properly with your Canon MP495. Since your other printers work fine wirelessly, it seems like an issue specific to Scangear. Try updating or reinstalling the Scangear software to see if that resolves the issue. If the problem persists, checking Canon's support site for any specific troubleshooting steps or updates for your model might help.
