    Strange sticking mouse pointer problem

I have a strange annoying mouse problem that I wonder if anybody can help with.

I have a HP Z1 Laptop with a HP docking station (cant remember the number but it is not a current cube type) which is supplied by work. As this is a work laptop loading drive is not an option, I have to go with the basic Windows 10 supplied ones.

I have tried 4 different mice (3 brand new), and three different mouse mats but I am still getting the same issue. I will go to highlight some text say and then as I am moving the mouse along the text the highlighting suddenly stop. I also get this sometimes when I am trying to simply move the mouse pointers from A to B, it will just simply freezes and will not move until I lift the mouse up off the mat and place it down again. The mouse is only a couple feet max from the receiver. The mice I have tried are Logitech, Microsoft and a Inpic all wireless

It is not a battery issue have fitted new batteries (not cheap batteries) and one of the mice has an onboard battery which is fully charged. The mouse mats are a mat light coloured nylon finished one, a Black and Grey patterned one nylon type and a plain black nylon type. I also used the desk but the mouse did not like the patterned desk at all which is what I expected.

Unfortunately the Z1 HP Laptop only has one USB socket which is used as one of the cables to the Docking station so the mouse has to to be plugged into the Docking station. I have tried each of the 3 spare usb sockets on the docking station but that makes no difference. I could probably request a new docking station but don't want to unless its the last option.

Can anybody suggest anything else to test please to try and resolve the issue

    Regards

    Tim

Have you tried removing the docking station, reboot, plug the mouse directly into the USB port and test.

Have you checked for driver issues in 'Device Manager'. While in there click on 'View' tap 'Show hidden devices'

I had similar issues a few years ago. I resolved it by a combination of mouse settings. For a mouse, I use a wireless Logitech M650 (W11 laptop) and a Logitech M185 w/wireless keyboard (W10 desktop). I use the wireless dongles for both systems. For mouse pads, I get the cheap ($3-$6) black pads from the grocery store. For me, they work great. Over the years, I have collected a bunch of pads, but like these the best.

I tried swapping out a variety of mice. I have about a dozen. Every time I put on a new mouse, I had to go through the setting for mice and adjust the pointer speed and click speed. One of the things that I found is that a "wired" mouse worked much better than a wireless. But, of course, I didn't want a wired mouse.

My son uses a fancy Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming mouse with his work laptop. The IT department, where he works, had a bit of trouble getting it to work properly, initially. But it works fine now. I don't know exactly what they did to make it work, but it involved fixed drivers from Logitech. For my tastes, the G502 has too many buttons.

Also, if you are using a laptop, make sure you turn off the finger pad. Having the mouse and finger pad enabled at the same time can make the laptop seem possessed.

    Good luck.
