Can't install Brother Laser printer with installation disk

I have a brand new Brother printer and installed it with the CD. Then, I had a problem and uninstalled it - then reinstalled it. The first installation was fine - but the reinstallation failed. It didn't show up under Devices and Printers. I called Brother support and they got the printer installed - but not with the installation software. In addition, an app called Brother Utilities did not install properly (some of the functions don't work). The Brother support agent told me something was blocking the normal installation. Strange because the primary installation went fine - I didn't have to shut down my PC Matic firewall or Windows Defender. So I'm left with an incomplete installation. Can someone help me find what's blocking the normal installation with the CD? Thank you.

Do you have a restore point (or image backup) so you can wind back before you installed the printer drivers?

What is the model number of your laser printer?

Is it connected by Wi-Fi or USB?

Do you have another computer to try to install the printer on?

You said the first install worked, but you removed the software and when you tried to install it a second time it failed, is that correct?

When you removed the software, did you remove all traces of it? Check add/ remove programs to make sure you've removed anything that is connected to the printer software, you can use install dates to determine what else installed with the printer software.

You can try disabling your protection software during the install.

I'll have to check. I used Revo Uninstall to remove all traces of the installation. For each module I uninstalled, a restore point was created. There are quite a few. I'll have to check the date. I will do.

    Wi-Fi WLAN

    No.

    Correct.

    Please explain the last sentence.

I disabled PC Matic but not Windows Defender. I will note that, for the initial installation which worked, I didn't disable anything.

Check add/ remove programs to make sure you've removed anything that is connected to the printer software, you can use install dates to determine what else installed with the printer software.

To do this, go to control panel -> Programs -> uninstall a program -> click on where is says 'Install On' the most recent dates will all come to the top of the list. This will tell you if anything else installed with the printer software. If something else appears on the same date that is connected to the printer software remove it before attempting to reinstall the printer.

What model is the brother laser printer? I asked before, you must have overlooked it.

I looked at the restore points and they won't be useful. If I can't fix this issue with some help, I would consider doing an in-place install since I don't know what, if anything, was deleted when I uninstalled the Brother software.

If you have system restore turned on, you can go back before the install. Then create another restore point and try installing the printer again.

Run the DISM tool, to check health, then run SFC /Scannow to check for file corruption.

What are the correct arguments for the DISM tool? And should both commands be run in an elevated mode? Also, should they be run in command mode or power shell mode?

Here's a tutorial for both DISM and SFC. It will address your concerns. You can skip the part regarding media creation tool unless you're having DISM issues.

How to use DISM command tool to repair Windows 10 image | Windows Central

Yes, these tools can also be ran using powershell.
