HP LJ 400dn Ethernet - detected by ping and Angry IP scanner, but can'

My reliable (until now) Laserjet 401dn printer times out when I try to print to it. I know that my Ethernet hub and cable are OK, because Angry IP Scanner and ping detect the printer at 192.168.1.240.

But I can no longer log into the printer's web page at that IP address. I usually configure the printer via the printer web page.

I have read the HP troubleshooting info, but it's not that helpful to me.

What to do? I don't want to replace this printer because I just put in an expensive HP80X cartridge.

    EDIT: fixed printer IP address.

    This is weird

So my wife said to me, "But I just printed something from my system." Ok so now I know it's not printer hardware.

I disconnected the Ethernet cable and plugged in a USB cable to the printer and to my system. Installed the driver. No joy.

So I uninstalled the USB driver install, and reinstalled the Ethernet driver for this printer. And it worked! I have no idea why? Did the driver itself become corrupted? Then I typed in the IP address of the printer, so I could view the web page in the printer. That did NOT work.

2-3 days I tried again to connect to the printer's web page, and this time it worked. So beat me with a stick. I can't explain any of this, except that I don't need to buy a new printer.

    Phil,

If it kicks off again, I suggest running HP Print & Scan Doctor.
    It might already be installed.
