A 3.5" HDD requires 5V and 12V, got a new IronWolf 4TB and the current is 0.55A and 0.37A. A used Samsung 500GB 2.5" HDD I have at hand needs 5V at 0.85A. All voltages are DC.

I didn't think the length matters, but rather it seems the bracket or housing where the SATA connector is on the the newer HDDs. No issues with older SATA 6 HDDs.
As I explained on sevenforums, the st2000 fits into the same caddy as the older seagate and wd disks.

For example it slides into this and onto the sata power and data connectors.

Not clear what your problem is.

The st2000 is a bit slimmer than many of the older grinders. The sata connectors are at the bottom so maybe try laying your dock on its back before sliding the st2000 in.

I had 2.5" in my head for some reason, yeah 3.5" needs 12v as well

Since the drive is some 5mm thinner, it seems quite possible that this prevents the electrical connectors built into the housing from lining up. It all depends on whether the vertical location of the connectors is specified from the top or bottom of the drive (I don't know). Have you tried inserting the drive with both it and the housing upside down, so gravity pushes the drive the other way? Failing that, can you see (or ideally, get) inside the housing to confirm the location of the connectors?

Update: This document shows the connector location spec - a bottom mounted device is shown in fig 23. It now seems highly unlikely to me that Seagate would get this wrong., so my above suggestion is probably silly.
I was initially thinking the same thing. Then again, based on the spec sheets for this Seagate, they do refer to it as a hybrid drive. Seagate is very adamant they don't want it's users to mount their HDDs into a dock like the one I'm using. That's all they'll really say.

However, the fact remains, this damn Seagates won't fit into my existing Thermatake SATA6 dock no matter what I do. Like @Ghot wrote, it's not like I can force it like an assault rifle's magazine.

It's unfortunate you're overthinking this and unclear on what my issue is. I'm sorry, but I can't be any clearer. It doesn't fit. The end.

Ha. Thanks. Few ratings and not the best. I've added it to my wish list and keep occasionally looking back. But the last thing I want is for these Chinese no-name made docks or adapters to corrupt my HDD and destroying them. Oh, one more thing. None of these docks actually have a button that reduces friction or ejects the HDD. My thermaltake has that and without it, that can lead to HDD breakage as you're pulling it out.

I am going to put your rudeness down to ignorance. For the moment.
