    Puzzling printer Lag

Hi folks, I hope someone can shed some light on this.

My wife and I (on different machines) are experiencing the same issue with a WiFi printer. First, some background.

My machine is a desktop pc, connected to the router directly via an Ethernet cable. [22h2 19045 ver 4046]
(machine specs as per pc #1)

My wife's machine is a laptop connected to the router over WiFi. [22H2 19045 ver 4046]

The printer is a Canon Laser connected to the router via WiFi.

    Router is AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 Router.

A simple 'This is a test' from Notepad is taking 6m 43sec to come out of the printer from my wife's laptop which is 3 feet from the printer.

A similar Notepad test print from my desktop pc is taking 4m 30sec to come out.

In both cases, we initially get error messages, then sometime later, the prints come out.

Before this morning, we had a delay in the prints appearing - say 30sec or so, but not this long. Overnight in the small hours, we had several power cuts (glitches more like) some of these being only seconds long (but enough to require the digital clocks to be set to the correct time).

Both pcs have had the print spooler service stopped, the printer folder cleared and the spooler restarted. The router has been rebooted and so have both pcs and the printer.

Any idea of what is going on and how to fix this?

    Kind regards,

I have 2 HP printers connected via Ethernet to my Wireless Router and any computer I install them on as Networked whether connected Wired or Wireless can access them. I haven't gotten into it very far but seems there is a difference between Wireless/Wi-Fi and Wireless Direct when it comes to printers. I found this page, may have some help:

A lot depends if the printer is sleeping as it will take time to fire up second thing are you spooling it or direct? If your spooling and the pc is busy it may not go straight away.
    Try waking printer then print
    try not spooling
see if there is any improvment

Thank you @Berton and @Samuria for your swift replies.

Reason that I am asking is that up until this morning, the lag (whilst somewhat annoying) wasn't a problem.

This morning (after the overnight power issues which may, of course, be purely co-incidental), the lag is significant with (as far as I am aware) no other changes having been made.

The printer (an Canon LBP7110CW) doesn't seem to have a 'WiFi Direct' setting (unless what I have done - shown below - is the same).

I have set 'Print Directly to Printer' rather than spooling and set the priority to 99 (was set to 1).

My desktop now takes 2m 19sec for printing to start rather than 4m 30s (and this was a picture in a Word document not a simple sentence in Notepad).

Yet to check my wife's laptop settings.

Probably auto calibration clicking in, may have been disturbed by power cuts to something silly.

See pages around p.80 of your PDF manual, and set something suitable.

There is no WiFi Direct on that printer.

    Hi Helmut, many thanks.

I don't seem to have a .pdf of the manual and the online one doesn't seem to have page numbers (!)

Would you have a linbk for the LBP7110CW manual at all?

In the meantime, I'll trawl the interweb and see what I can find.

UPDATE: Found an online copy (Manuals.lib) >> link here for others with this printer.

All sorted now Rick, but thanks for taking the trouble to post that link.

For some reason, my searches weren't throwing anything up like that.

Manuals.lib came to my rescue and I updated my post to refelect this.

Still not sure if the lag issue is sorted however ...

When I used an HP printer the auto calibration took ages on the first page of a session, probably longer than yours.
The current Canon has manual calibration and has only been done once in 5 years and is still good.

    Search for "Canon support UK".
The right one will come up top.

Consumer Product Support - Canon UK

    Then input printer model.

i-SENSYS LBP7110Cw - Support - Download drivers, software and manuals - Canon UK

    Then select MANUALS > Download.

    Update ...

And today, having changed NOTHING, the desktop when printing a page from a Word document took about 34 sec for the print to complete from clicking in the 'Print' button.

And from my wife's laptop, running the same test as yesterday (a single simple 'This is a Test' sentence in Notepad) took 4 sec to start printing and 16sec for the completed page.

So, "fixed" although I don't know why - in much the same way as I didn't know what was going on yesterday.

Maybe the wind is coming from a different direction to yesterday or my computers/network/router just don't like Mondays *shrugs*

    Ain't computers fun?!
