No files showing on USB drive (Kingston Data Traveler)

    Hello,

    Running Windows10

No files can be seen on USB stick.
USB drive is visible in File Manager but when clicked it says 'Please insert disk...'
In Disk Management I can see the drive. The size is about right. All disk space is unallocated.

I have tried testdisk but it can't find anything (never used the program before)

    Can anybody please help me?

    erkki,

You have not said if you had put any files on the USB stick or whether they are backed up elsewhere.
You do need to back up anything on them.
USB sticks & SD cards are relatively unreliable compared to HDDs & SSDs.

If the contents were backed up, you could just right-click on it in Disk mgmt then select [if I remember the sequence correctly] Initialise, Create volume, Format.

    Best of luck,

If you have important files on the drive and you don't have a backup wait for @jumanji.
He is the drive guru and the best one to guide you, so don't do anything. Wait for him.

    Hi @xandy

Answer Try3's query in post #6. What files you have put into the flash drive and whether the originals you copied into it are still present in the other media. In such a case no data recovery is necessary.

    In addition

    1. What is the exact model of your Data Traveler? Please point it in this page. USB Flash Drives for personal use and encrypted data - Kingston Technology

    2. How old is that flash drive ? When and where did you buy it? Is it still under warranty?

    3. Are you aware that counterfeits exist and Kingston advises the buyers to buy only from authorised dealers. "Purchasing Kingston products from authorised distributors and resellers will help ensure product authenticity. Visit the Where To Buy page to find your local Kingston reseller. "

    4. Have you verified the authenticity as indicated here How to Identify Kingston Product - Kingston Technology ?

    5. When was the last time you used it and it was working?

Answer all questions without missing anything.
