    Printed Color Dilemma

    Hello folks,

Am here to get help with color printing. Very unique situation in my office.
I am attaching the file I used and sample of the color printed results. I hope am not asking for too much.

Would someone please print the file "02 Word.docx" to your laser printer, to check if the printed copy, looks very close to what you see on the screen in the Microsoft Word document. As you see in file "03 Color Sample.jpg", that the second line, blue color on the computer screen, does not look anything close to the one printed to the color printers, in file "03 Color Sample.jpg", #3, #4 and #5.

Yes I believe the screen color will never be 100% same as the printed paper, however, it should look really close. I have been printing in color printers for years, including camera photos. The Canon tech support took the file to print in their office, the result looks as in #3, #4 and #5 in file "03 Color Sample.jpg".

It will be too coincidental that our color printer, the Canon sales office's printer, FedEX and the printing services in town, all could not produce a 'real' blue color as in row 2 in the file "02 Word.docx".

My goal is to use the process of elimination to trouble shoot why the printed document would not produce a close enough color as on the computer screen.

    Cheers

What I get from that file in LibreOffice Writer and the colors when printed on my HP OfficeJet Pro are closer to 3:

What you are seeing is the result of the conversion from RGB to CMYK output on a color laser. The color laser uses a combination of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black toner. That's about as close as you are going to get on a color laser.

    1 & 2 would have a screen calibration involved.
3 would also have a Canon printer calibration profile, and a Canon scanner profile involved.

4 & 5 would have a print shop calibration profile.

At least the last two Print shop samples are consistent with each other which is pleasing.

The differences in 3 are due in part to the extra scanner profile.

A screen display of colours is very different to the medium of paper and inks/toners so there is always going to be differences.

Your samples are typical, you are not going to get them "really close".

It is an office printer with CMYK cartridges, for more colour accuracy 7 or more will be used.

Even putting two screens of different panel technologies next to each other will show very noticeable differences in the viewed colour due to the colour filter materials used, spectrum of the white backlight, AR coatings etc.

You will never match printed colours with screen colours unless you use a properly calibrated monitor which means using a spectrophotometer to build a custom monitor profile. The viewing lamp colour temperature and brightness also needs to match the monitor calibration. Colour laser printers are not designed for accurate colour matching. For that you need a proper photo printer.

Just curious. Is this attached image from your HP OfficeJet Pro?
If not, would you please attach a photo of your print.

    Thanks

No, that image is a screenshot of the attached file when I opened it in LibreOffice. I'll print and do a print from Microsoft 365 on this cheapo Notebook.
