I will definitely run hard disk sentinel, unfortunately it's my workplace PC and I have not a lot of flexibility and today it was not possible. I will update the thread about that too

Since it could be an easy step I'm hoping that deleting or fixing the corrupted files will help the disk to not freak out

The windows error checking utility for the drive says "we found errors on this drive. to avoid data loss, repair this drive now" which would be pretty convenient, though I'd like to know more about it before running the repair the next time I have the opportunity
If it is a workplace pc, isn't this an IT issue?

Agreed, get IT involved if the company has one as there may be/should be some restrictions in place.

@Megahertz yes I'm afraid you are right. Will do the chkdsk too, it's on the chklist. Thanks

@cereberus @Berton I do agree but IT could definitely be a little more empathetic at the moment, it is what it is -_-

The problem with IT depts is they get the heebie-jeebies if anybody does something they should not do in accordance with company policies.

Who do you think will get shafted if you lose valuable data, infect company network etc

I had a company pc that was not working properly - I eventually had to go to my boss and complained IT was not helping , and I was in danger of meeting valuable client deadlines. I had a new pc in less than a week!

I do all sorts of crazy things on my devices, but NEVER on a company pc.

It just is not worth the risk doing anything that contravenes IT policy (even if ridiculously draconian).

We are on the same page indeed. I have already been assigned another machine as the one with HDD issues is going to be phased out anyway. Still it would be nice to have it working, but it's more of a sidequest than anything else

Talking about heebie-jeebies, the fun part is that who actually did not follow IT policies is who bought these machines for my office. So every time IT hears about my office they immediately skip to the next thing because (rightfully) they don't want to be bothered with non-standard machines they didn't approve buying

It doesn't matter who bought the machines. As they belong to the company IT is responsible for them, liking or not.
