TUF Z370 Plus Gaming M.2 compatibility

I have the referenced board, which has an M.2 socket. I'm not up on NVMe and Asus support has become an exercise in frustration. I'd like to use the M.2 socket, but am unsure if current NVME offering are supported.

I'm looking at this one and a few others:

    Samsung 980 PRO 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVME M.2 SSD (MZ-V8P1T0BW)

If these aren't compatible, what specs should I look for?

    Thanks for any help.

It is compatible. The Samsung Pro is the best but also the most expensive.
As it is a PCIe 4.0 and your MB has PCIe 3.0 you won't achieve the speeds on the specs.
You may find a PCIe 3.0 at lower price. I suggest the Crucial.
    Crucial P3 1TB PCIe 3.0 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 3500MB/s
    Seagate BarraCuda Q5 M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe 1.3 3D QLC - Up to 2400 MBps

If you already have a 2.5" SATA SSD you will only see the difference to a faster M.2 NVMe on the benchmark test.
But if you still have a HDD the difference is huge.

Thanks, MHZ. I do have SSDs for all of my system drives (and more). In fact, one reason I'm looking at M.2 is that I have need of another system drive for another machine (w/Asus Max Hero VI board) and thought I may as well pick up NVMe and move the SSD over to the Hero system.

I don't mind paying extra for premium, and it gives me forward compatibility for future builds.

As always, thanks for the guidance. Much appreciated.

Don't pay extra money for tech items you may use on future builds.
When you get to have those builds the technology will be much better and today premium will be obsolete.
Today you already have PCIe 5.0 so the Samsung Pro is already "obsolete" (still very good but not state of the art)

I can't argue with that. I just ordered the crucial. Thanks again.
