    Shaded Instances

    Is there a way to check the pins of computer's usb port? Just plug another device with data transfer, like phone or camera, memory stick, etc.
    Or unplug the GPS and from Device Manager show hidden devices, scroll to the ones on the picture /they are shaded, ghosts or inactive/ and uninstall them. Then plug in back again. This will reinstall them.

    Hi, sorry for late response, as I wasn't notified to your post.
    I have taken some screen shots of shaded instances from Device Manager, which ones shall I delete?

    Hi xXTenXx, I always uninstall all which are grayed out in the following components: Disk drives, Portable Devices, Storage volumes and Universal Serial Bus controllers.. First unplug all usb devices connected to your computer except the wireless mouse controller, if you have one.
    As a matter of fact it is surprising how many ghost devices you have they are a lot! Try this and if something goes wrong be prepared for a clean install.
    Hope this help

    Have you swapped processors on this machine? You have ghost entries that only this would explain.

    Hi, Motherboard and processor have been swapped, by a "technician", as there was a problem with them.

    That 'technician' failed to clean up behind himself, i would delete all those ghost entries personally, they are redundant.

    Yes, he did, I went right through the Device Manager, and deleted all instances of Code 45, however, my GPS was not detected, as a drive.

    It took me nearly an hour to delete the grayed out devices, as there was plenty more in Device Manager, my GPS is still not being detected though!!

    Well, there's not much left to do. If I were you, I would:
    - check pins of usb slot on both computer and gps;
    - try if gps works when connected to another computer;
    - clean install.
    BTW Garmin Express requires NET.Framework 3.5 to be installed. Do you have it?

    Hi, how do I check if I have or not?

    I misread your post, Garmin Express installs and works.

    Actually, did you connect the gps and open Garmin Express to search for it? Sorry for the dumb question. Since I don't use Garmin Express anymore, I recall that the gps device is detected automatically by the software. Even comes a thumbnail of the unit - directly on the GE interface.
    The NET. Framework could be skipped during installation of GE, that's way I asked...

    Yes, but, it has to be detected as a drive first.
