Greetings, hope your day is going well...

I followed your directions, and showed both the list and boot page..
    Does not look good.
Just to note, this is a hard drive I got off of amazon, i could return it.. ( I think), and get a replacement if this becomes too much of a burden or an unlikely solve issue.... just saying...

    Pelase see below...

Boy! You have done it on a wrong partition: 1 P MS Reserved Start sector 34 end sector 32767 Size 32734 sectors
    ( Microsoft reserved partition )
. This partition does not have a file system. This 16MB space is kept reserved by Microsoft for operating system use. User cannot see it in Disk Management and cannot access it. Kept hidden.

Please pay attention and do it on the second partition which is your data partition: 2 P MS Data Start Sector 32768 End sector 976771071 Size 976738304 sectors (Basic data partition). This has the NTFS file system and this is where your data is. We are checking the filesystem of this partition. I have shown this in the first and second screenshots in post #20

Please repeat the procedure on this partition and post the screenshot showing the status of the boot sectors.

If you do not want to try data recovery, you may return the SSD to Amazon. It is your prerogative. Check Your Account > Your Orders on Amazon. Return Window closure normally is one month from the date of purchase.

    Hi again, ...

I was surprised to read I messed up again, although I do not put it past me at this time.
However, I was sure did follow what was written, and did not "Boot" from the" MS Reserved" portion of the disk, as I understand your comments, but I did "Boot" from the "P MS Data" In trial today, when I moved my cursor to "1 P MS Reserved" , ....there is no option at bottom of screen for "Boot".. Just "Image Creation" and "Type"..and..well.., "Quit" also

I have repeated it again and attached the below showing more detailed of the steps. The first left top section is my highlights prior to hitting
"Enter" for the " 2 P MS Data" : "List"; - and to the right of that is the output.

The bottom section is my command prior to hitting "Enter" for "2 P MS Data: : "Boot",
and to the right is the output.

Below the words "Partition" I see the words "2 P MS Data", so the MS data is what I am looking at.
If this is incorrect, then I am really confused and in need of a vacation...speaking of which..

I am leaving tonight to go camping over the weekend, so will return Monday eve. to see your response.

Other: I am scrutinizing the difference between my two screenshots from what I sent yesterday vs what was sent today. The one I sent today has " > 2 P MS Data" the one I sent yesterday has " > 1 P MS Data" !?.

Thanks so much for your help.... and patience!

omgg... After reading all this I'm so glad I got the Pro Ultimate. (Back then it was much cheaper but I'm good for a lifetime.) This will take care of any PMS issues.

No problem. Enjoy your camping trip. You may see this post after your return and act upon it.. If you make any mistake you may have to repeat again

Remember to select the second MS Data partition

Fine. You did it right in your last post.
Running TestDisk so many times, you are already an expert in it.

To recoup what is already done:

Screen 5 gave you only two options. [Type] and [Image Creation], No option to check [Boot] or [List] folders/files.

We went into [Type]. In the next Screen 6 confirmed it is an MS Data partition and in the next Screen 7 which showed the partition type (File System) as Unknown ( and that is the problem) was redefined as NTFS.

    In the next Screen 8 you got the option to check [Boot]. You did it and the next Screen 9 showed both Boot sector and backup boot sector are bad. { [List] did not show your folders/files but gave a message " Can't open file system.Filesystem seems damaged".}

You will repeat the same steps again till you reach the Screen that says "Boot sector bad. Backup boot sector bad" and continue to the next step from there.

    Note:
If you remember what I had written here External drive data Lost - Windows 10

    {Various possibilities exist:

    1. ............

    2. Boot sector - Bad
    Backup boot sector - Bad
Execute [Rebuild BS] command ( Rebuilds the Volume Boot Record and writes it into the Partition start sector and partition end sector)

    3. ...............

    The above three operations should repair the boot sectors and make your drive accessible. A reboot is required.}

OK , The screen you see below, was your last screen that proclaims both Boot sector and backup boot sector bad.
    Screen 9:
Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-a11-01-2024-09-55-35.jpg

In the above screen highlight [Rebuild BS] and press Enter BS stands for Boot Sector

Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-b11-01-2024-09-59-20.jpg

    Screen 10:
In this screen [List] is highlighted. Press Enter
Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-c11-01-2024-10-01-37.jpg

    Screen 11:
In this Screen do you see all your folders/files? If yes, Press 'Q' to go to the previous screen.

Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-d11-01-2024-10-02-53.jpg

    Screen 12:
    Highlight [Write] and press Enter.

Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-e11-01-2024-10-05-17.jpg

    Screen 13:
Confirm pressing 'Y' key. TestDisk will take the data from the Partition table in Sector 2 and write the extrapolated Partition Boot Record onto the start and end sectors of the partition.

Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-f11-01-2024-10-07-22.jpg

    Screen 14:
Do you now see the message that the Boot sector and Backup Boot Sector OK?. We shall do an extra check to ascertain the status of MFT ( Master File Table). Highlight [Repair MFT] and press Enter

Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-12-01-2024-17-42-28.jpg

    Screen 15:
If you see the message that "MFT and MFT Mirror match perfectly" press Enter

Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-b-12-01-2024-17-46-55.jpg

    Screen 16:
You will be returned to the Boot sector OK Backup boot sector OK screen. Close TestDisk by hitting on 'X' in the top Title bar, say a prayer and Reboot your PC

Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-c12-01-2024-17-52-43.jpg

Can you access your SSD now? Post a screenshot of Windows Disk Management for all to see.

Note: All screenshots in this post taken in realtime on my SAMSUNG SSD 860 EVO 500GB Trial disk in which I replicated your SSD condition by removing the NTFS flag in the partition start sector 32768 and Partition end sector 976771071 that holds the the Patition Boot Record and its backup respectively ( using bootice), making the disk RAW and inaccessible.. Went through Screen 1 to screen 12, successfully restoring the disk and making it accessible again.

    FANTASTIC! It worked!!!
    No RAW file systems!!!!!!!!!
    All folders saved and checked.

    See below!

Thank you so much jumanji!! especialy for your patience with me for my goof ups in this working thru this procedure!

    I do have some questions...
This is a newly installed drive, is there something I could have done duirng its installation which caused this corruption? I have installed both SSD's and HD's in the past, never had this issue..

Can this drive be trusted?.. or does a corrupted drive have a tendency to repeat its corrupted behavior? Initally it seemed to work fine, I could see my folders, etc... then it went to the dark side.

IF it becomes corrupted again, what would be your suggestion, ... just to repeat the above Test Disk procedures?

    Thank you again

You did a good job .....this time

When you receive a new SSD or HDD you only format it. There is nothing you can do during installation to prevent the disk getting corrupted anytime later..

A good question. Hmmmm............. I trusted your disk because you said it is a new SSD and that a Crucial. If it was an old disk, I would have asked the OP to check its health using Crystal DiskInfo / Hard Disk Sentinel and post a screenshot before proceeding further. But now you have to do it and must for your own peace of mind..

No and No. A disk may become RAW and inaccessible for many causative factors, known and unknown. For example if it is only a partition table corruption, simply running the Partition Recovery Wizard in MiniTool Partition Wizard or TestDisk ( different procedure) can repair and restore the partitions, When it comes to data recovery there is no "one size fits all". Always ask for expert help. Many a time the OPs try to do something or other on their own and make the disk worse before seeking expert help. That doesn't help the expert
    .
To check the health of your SSD:

Crystal Disk Info: CrystalDiskInfo download | SourceForge.net Also CrystalDiskInfo - Crystal Dew World [en]

    Sample screenshot:

Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-16-01-2024-13-13-30.jpg

HardDisk Sentinel: Trial version of Hard Disk Sentinel Hard Disk Sentinel Trial version - HDD health and temperature monitoring

    Sample screenshot:

Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-b-16-01-2024-13-29-06.jpg

Since you have a Crucial SSD download and install Crucial Storage Executive Crucial Storage Executive Tool | Firmware Download | Crucial IN

    Sample screenshot:

Crucial SSD Went RAW in the file system-c-16-01-2024-13-34-32.jpg

You may check the health, update the firmware and run Device Selftest ( This application takes quite a time to load when clicked. So wait patiently to give that time)

About your system disk PNY SSD CS900 240GB:
If the Operating system finds any minor problem with the filesystem, it may ask you to run checkdisk.
You only have 2% free space on it.. On a System disk for Checkdisk to run smoothly atleast 10% free space is recommended. Consider increasing the free space. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...8-831022bc9b32. (On a Data disk atleast 5% free space is recommended.)

OK. on your behalf I will be requesting the admins/mods to mark this thread solved.

    Have a good day.

Have seen many people crying over a dead drive.
As any computer device, one day the drive will fail.
The only way to guaranty you don't loose your data is having a backup.
