    @brispuss

I seem to remember that my optical drive can no longer be put as the first boot device in the BIOS, after one of the BIOS updates. But it still shows on my ASUS F8 boot menu.

But as I mentioned, for Gigabyte, the "boot menu" is F12.

What shows on the boot menu, may be related to some other BIOS setting, like CSM, Secure Boot... etc.

This may be the reason, the optical drive doesn't show...

This is on the Boot tab in your BIOS....

Try enabling Fast Boot, then under SATA Support choose.... All SATA Devices.

I do not know what is in your Bios.
Perhaps you could take & post photos of the Boot sequence pages [those pages that correspond to the ones I posted]. Your Bios might use different names for them.

That pic IS his BIOS settings on the Boot tab.'

From the OP's description it looks like he has it set to "Last Boot SATA Devices Only".

On that setting the optical drive will be disabled till after Windows is done booting.
So he won't be able to choose it... till he's in Windows.
He needs to set it to "All Boot Devices" so the optical drive will also be available during POST.

The only relevant diagram would be the one that probably appears after clicking on that Boot option priorities control.

According to that big RED box... the optical drive won't appear (or be select-able), in the Boot Option Priorities, until he selects "All SATA Devices".

Read the description under SATA Support > Last Boot SATA Devices Only

    It says...
Except for the previous boot drive, all SATA devices are disabled
before the OS boot process completes.

    Remember, it's only 2130 where I live.
It must be 2730 (oh no he didn't), where you live.

I just got my other gigabyte machine out of the box ( it has a dvdrom drive ) , plugged in the monitor, keyboard, etc to take these pics.

here it shows up at first

    then I disabled it

after it has been disabled it also doesnt show on the one time f12 menu

Probably the op has disabled it by accident

Uh oh. Something wrong. Win11 desktop appears but no mouse and no dekstop icons. ctrl+alt+del just brings blank screen.

Listening closely strange clicks coming from psu. Fortunately I bought a spare psu a couple of months ago. Fingers crossed that will do the job.

I am posting from the other machine now.

edit: that resulted in unforeseen problems

He said the BIOS was updated to the latest by a store technician.
It may have been disabled by that guy?
