    Hard drives not detected

Hello again. I've another question if I could.
I have a couple of Dell HDD I use (or wanted to) just to as an external disk to back up data or for temporary clones. My problem is when I plug them in to my desktop via a SATA/USB adaptor they don't register either in "This PC" or "Disk Management". However, when I place either of them into an "All In One Docking Station" and plug this into the same USB socket, both HDD are now detected and accessible in both "This PC" and 'Disk Management". I have formatted them both via the docking station, however both HDD remain undetected when plugged in without it. It's a bit of a nuisance so I'd be glad of any suggestions.
    Regards,
    Bill

The SATA/USB adaptor may be faulty or not cabable of supplying enough power to the HDD. Try the HDDs in a branded enclosure.

Thank you Jumanji for the suggestion. The SATA/USB adaptor is fine --- I've tried a couple of them and they work well on other devices. I think you are probably correct re. the power issue. They seem to be fine with SSDs but not so with spinning disk drives.

Hard drives do take a lot more power.
