A few questions before fresh install of Win 10 pro

    Hello everyone,
Back months ago I upgraded to Win 11 and ever since I have had the black screen going black for a sew seconds at least once a day. Tried everything to fix it only to find out it is an issue with Win 11 call the "Black screen of death" some have reported that their screens go black and stay that way.

I'm going to do a fresh install of my Win 10 Pro, after the install I know I have to install all the software again but do I need to worry about installing my MB drivers and all the other drivers that came with my MSI MB? I think I do but at my age I am good to remember yesterday...........lol double checking to make sure....lol

    Thanks as always

Normally Win 10 provides most if not all basic drivers.

Once you have done the clean install, check.. if there's anything missing you should be able to get it from the manufacturer's site.
That may apply if there's a specialised keyboard, for example- something unique to that PC.

Remember that when clean installing (review the tutorial) you
    - create a current flash drive using the MS media creation tool (Tutorial available)
    - as part of the procedure delete all partitions of your current O/S - that could be 4 or more
    - around steps 14,15 of the clean install tutorial.

Win 10 is installed to unallocated space

Plan where you're going to place your personal data- better not on C:

Start using 3rd party disk imaging to secure your progress periodically, starting as early as you can.

    Thanks,
I created a USB drive before I upgraded to Win 11 using Brinks tutorial since it's only been a few months or so I plan to use that one. Do you see any downside of doing that with the exception that I might have to to download some more recent updates? I'd rather use this one if it makes sense.

Ms runs a CMD on updates for OneDrive so it's not a fault and it will happen on a new install

I suggest you build the USB Win 10 22h2 installation drive using MCT so it can boot as Legacy or UEFI.

    On BIOS
Set Disk mode to AHCI, not RAID
    Select OS mode = UEFI
Disable fast boot and secure boot (you can turn it on after installation)

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

As you have a UEFI BIOS, you should install as UEFI-GPT
Detach any other drives (SATA or Power cable) from the MB.

During POST, press F12(?) to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name) to install as UEFI-GPT.
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the main drive till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.
If you don't want to use MS account, don't enable updates or connect to the internet during installation.

I created a USB drive a few months back using the MCT I plan to just use that and then download any updates that have come out since then.. Any downside you see except not having every update?

If it can boot as UEFI (to do so it must be on a Fat32 partition) it's OK

Last time I installed Win 10 after building a new System I didn't press F12 during boot so I didn't have the chance to pick UEFI but I think it installed that version by default. Is there a way to double check what is installed now before I start?

    Look at your partition structure.

If you are looking at the old post I'm sorry but I had to redo it.

The C drive is obviously my OS the other drives are storage. Nothing says UEFI???
