    External SSD connections problems

I have 2 SSD'S, used strictly for periodic backups.

I plugged one of them in today, which prompted this

I did the repair, and at least for now, it seems ok.

When the other is connected, it "blinks" (for lack of a better term) open and closed, momentarily displaying it's contents. second by second, until I unplug it, intermittently bringing up these messages

I opened up the Device Manager, and was able to click on it under "Disk Drives", to uninstall the driver, but it didn't matter.

The only other times anything like this happened is when I I had another device assuming it's drive letter before plugging it in, so I had to reassign it.

I tried using the cable from the other drive, and a different port, but no help.

I don't know it the two incidents are related, but it's quite a coincidence.

Just for clarity, are those SSD drives in External USB cases that are being plugged into USB ports on the computer? And are USB 2 or USB 3 or USB-C ports being used? USB 2 has black centers and USB 3 has blue centers. And are those drives the portable type like Western Digital My Passport or Toshiba Canvio? I put surplus 2.5" Notebook drives in the portable cases like Sabrent to reuse them.

Plug the drives into pc directly on motherboard so we know if it's not a drive issue

As mentioned, plug the drive into ports on the rear of the Desktop. The front ports are usually connected by cable to the motherboard and may have an issue. Try the drive in a different computer. I have 2 x 4TB drives attached to my computer via a self-powered USB 3 Hub with 4 ports, no issues.

I followed you advice. In the past, I avoided the rear ports for permanent use because of my temperamental wireless mouse receivers. I'm keeping in mind the "closest to the motherboard' concept.

Sandisk is doing an RMA. Fortunately for me, It actually connected eventually, long enough for me to grab the data.

    Thanks everyone
