    Mouse lags on Laptop

After I replaced the HDD with a SSD hard-drive approx. 9 months ago I noticed that both the touchpad mouse and the wired mouse lagged. As the laptop was not going to be used, I did not investigate the issue. Now my daughter needs it. I downloaded a fresh copy of Windows 10, the method where you keep your files. The problem still exists with both the touchpad and the wired USB mouse. The first couple of movements of the mouse are ok and then around 1 in 3 lag. I have updated the drivers through the Device Manager and have disabled Realtek both in the task manager and Config, problem still exists. Can anyone in the forum offer any help or fixes?

Do you perhaps mean an in-place upgrade repair install (tutorial available if you want to check), where you e.g. download and mount a Win 10 iso file, open new drive letter, double click setup.exe... ?

Please boot to Safe Mode (tutorial available in the searchable Tutorials section if you're unsure how).
    Do you experience any lag?

Back in normal mode, log in as normal, launch the task manager. Look about 3 mins after logging in. Is there any excessive resource usage?

    Thanks.

Are you sure that you have the right drivers? or the exact ones you used to have? I've had minimal different results after reinstalling or upgrading because the OS might change (or upgrade) something without telling me, so, my method of choice when replacing a hard drive is cloning the disk, this way I make sure I have an exact copy of my previous hard drive.

Unrelated but worth sharing: there was a time when I experienced mouse lags after a hardware change, this happened after replacing my already dying WIFI+Bluetooth dual mini pcie with a different model, it worked "perfectly", except for a random but persistent mouse lag. I solved this replacing this one with a third option. It was a driver issue as the piece worked perfectly on W8.1, but W10 didn't like that piece of hardware.

    Hi Dalchina

I booted in to safe mode and both the touchpad and external wired mouse worked perfectly. There were no programs hogging the processor, after a couple of minutes it settles at around 15%.

I used MSCONFig and disabled all the non-essential programs, problem still exists.

Deleted all programs, ie Office, Nortons etc, problem still exists.

Created a media ISO disk with a fresh copy of Windows and installed it. As the update came near to the end the mouse was working perfectly, until I created a pin and the problem re-occurred. The laptop now only has Windows on it. Any more help would be appreciated.

    Hi Hroldan

Thanks for your input, one for the future, I'll create clone copy of my hard drive, when I get the problem with the mouse lag resolved.

    Safe Mode Ok, noted.

    Again:

    - hopefully you uninstalled them... rather than deleting folders?

Note that your graphics card will not use the same driver in Safe Mode.
This symptom can be related to the graphics driver.

I also note you're using Win 11.. this is tenforums, supporting Win 10 - so answers will be based on Win 10.

    Dalchina,

Thanks again for your help, I followed up on the graphics card for the laptop after you mentioned it doesn't use the same driver as in Safe mode. I downloaded the latest version from the HP website, and this fixed the problem.

I should have mentioned in my first thread, this was my daughter's laptop which has Windows 10, my PC has Windows 11.
