    Epson UK Rebate Scheme

I was looking at prices for an Epson ET-8550 printer and spotted Epson UK have a rebate offer which gives £100 off this printer and discounts off other printers and scanners. Most main UK photo retailers are participating like Wex and Jessops but not Amazon. See Promotions | The Big Cashback | Epson United Kingdom . The offer expires on 31/03/2024.

I'll probably wait until Black Friday for the best prices.

You guys in the UK participate in Black Friday? I thought it was just a thing here in the U.S. since it was the first day after Thanksgiving (Pilgrims and shit) and the kick off to the greedhead holiday spending splendor. (I hate Christmas).

Cyber Monday I can see being a world wide marketing scheme though.

Thing is, you're not saving any money. The companies just lower the price to what it should be. Even then, they're still making hand over fist money and satisfying the share holders due to Chinese slave labor.

Don't mess with ink jet printers though. Go laser and help save on the BS. I honestly think ink is more expensive than petroleum at this point. And having said that, there really is an ink cartel out there so to speak... They'll (printer manufacturers) even control what ink you can use with firmware updates. Ah yes, updates, the magical BS code most people don't need unless it really fixes something rather than break it.

Cannon or Brother are pretty good, but it depends.

Yes, we have a Black Friday week. I won't be ripped off since I'm well aware of the price trends. I want an A3 photo printer. The ET-8550 is a cheap to run A3 Eco Tank photo printer which offers a good price / performance in my thorough review. Colour laser printers are no use for quality photo printing.

I actually had no idea. You'd think laser would be better.

The reason is quality photo inkjet printers have at least 6 inks to ensure a good colour gamut and color reproduction. They also have good archive quality and the ability to print on many photo media including heavyweight papers.

It's true. Toner is lousy for capturing subtle differences in color.

Same is even true for most inkjet printers as you get variations simply due to ink quality, especially if you use 3rd party inks.

In the end, if you want high quality photos, you still need to create them using old-fashioned photographic paper in a dark room.

I disagree. Digital photo processing and printing allows far more flexibility with excellent results. You do need to use a calibrated workflow and a high quality printer using suitable photo processing software e.g. Lightroom / Photoshop.

There is the key point - high quality printer. Most pople buy cheap printers and often end up using cheap ink.

You get what you pay for.
