SOLVED HDD Died during raid restore in RaidXpert2. How to fix?

I thought I had solved my issue but was not able. I started a restore on a 2tb array that I thought was going fine but the 2tb drive that I was using was a used drive that kept having issues. I went out and bought a brand new drive to use, and I marked it as a global spare but I don't know where to go from here as far as getting it to restore. I see Disk 11 in the destination array but Disk 00(the bad one) is there and is marked failed offline. How do I get the array to rebuild using the new Disk 14 that I have plugged in?

This is Win10 Pro 64 Bit. The drives are both 2tb WD Red drives I believe.

Read the manual on Restore (Rebuild) Arrays on page 91, 6.4.4 here.

There's an updated version of this manual here.

I see. I think I left out that this is a RAID1 configuration.

    Hello

From my experience a Raid 1 Install puts the same OS install on both drives. Mirrors the data.
So if one drive fails, the other is a direct copy and you'll always get back into the OS.

I would try both the offline drive and working drive completely on their own to start with.

Go into the Bios and change the Sata port from its original RAID, back to AHCI or Legacy.
    Reboot machine.

Back to the Bios, and see if you can detect the drives on the Sata ports.

If you can see the Sata ports for either drives, this is a good start.

Raid 1 changed back to AHCI or Legacy will allow the disks to run seperately, and should in theory allow you to boot into Windows, exactly the same as when they were a pair.

Make sure the selected drive is running as the boot drive in bios and test it. Raid 1 is pretty good.

Give that a blast and good luck

Thank you. I was able to get to the "good" drive. Now I need to use it to build a new array and preserve the data. Do you happen to know how to do it?

    Okies

The only way i can think of getting back to where you were before, is by making an cloned image of your working OS as it is right now.
Im not sure on the best latest software to use for images, as im abit behind the times. I used to use Acronis.
The theory hasnt changed. Save the image file to a FAT32 hard drive.

Have you got any other spare hard drives?

If you can, create another installation of Windows on another drive. You only need this, to access the two working 2TB drives and get them all cleaned up.
Use Disk Management or Disk Part for this. Both work well.

I would now shut the machine down. Switch back to your two raid drives. Change Sata port back to Raid. Re create the array.

Now, boot from your image creation software with a usb stick or CD, so you can access the image you made earlier.
Load the image and it should bang it straight back onto the raid array disk.

Thats how i would try and do it

This isn't my OS drive. I have an SSD for my OS. This is basically my data drive.

A case of doing alot of file transfers then and maybe starting again after your files are backed up.

Get all the data from the working raid drive and bang it somewhere else safe for now.

Change bios back to raid to setup the two disks.
Then you can delete the current array it has on it. Then get your new 2TB and pair up with old drive.
Create new array with new pair.

Boot back to your SSD with a fresh raid setup sat alongside it and then copy your files back.
