Unspecified errors when using chkdsk to repair disks

I have 3 external hard disks that have bad sectors. I have used several software hard disk utilities to scan for errors namely Victoria HDD and HDD Regenerator(unpaid version which only repairs one bad sector). When using Victoria HDD while scanning the hard drive I get I/O errors reading the disk and that is because my miniport driver and storport driver log an error(ID153) in event viewer about timeout errors when reading sectors. Then the storport driver eventually resets the Device which causes errors on the disk and Victoria reports that there are I/O errors when trying to read the sectors on the device which is disconnected. The device eventually reconnects and the read operations continue after that. But after logging the errors on the disk I try to use the remap function in Victoria but the software errors out when trying to remap the sectors because access to write to the disk is denied. I researched this error on hdd.by.com and they said you have to disable MBR on the disk but there are errors saving the MBR when I try disabling it. If i try using chkdsk to repair my disks I get unspecified errors and sometimes it reports that there is not enough space on the disk to complete the repair operation. One error i got was it told me there was not enough space on the disk to repair the Master File Table(MFT) mirror on the disk. My windows version is Windows 10 Microsoft windows version 22H2 (OS Build 19045.3393

Welcome to the forum. If the disk has bad sectors it's a hardware and can't be repaired as it get bad sectors it remaps to engineer tracks so when you see them it all ready has lots. If it's bad at the start of the disk the tables are corrupted so the disk is useless

    Bad Sectors

I am not really sure is the disks have bad sectors the only thing I am sure of is that there are timeouts and I/O errors in reading the sector on the disk. As I noted in my previous post there are warnings in event viewer (ID153) that note the read operation is going to be retried. There are a lot of timeout errors and eventually the device gets reset which causes data corruption on the disk. (noted in event viewer by (ntfs ID40))

Get a copy of Hard Disk Sentinel.
Full functional trial - portable version available.

Simply run it- look at the GUI. It gives you a comprehensible report right away.

If multiple disks are present, use the tabs to the left to select each disk for review.

For drive problems if HD Tune or Macrorit are used first they typically display bad blocks that disappear after using HD Sentinel.

HD Sentinel often reports that bad blocks were moved.

Once moved the HD Tune software is no longer able to identify bad blocks.

Write to the disk is denied is seen in failed drives.

To test for drive failure please run Sea Tools for Windows Long Generic test:

    HDD Sentinal

The software reports that i have two bad hard drives with numerous bad sectors.
The first one is a seagate1TB External HDD
The second one is a Seagate Backup Plus Hub 8TB External HDD.
The estimated life of both these disks is 4 days
I tried copying my videos from the 1TB drive to an internal drive but got cyclic redundancy errors during data transfer

    - not surprising. I assume you don't have backups.

Here are 2 ways you might have detected this problem much earlier, so this is advice for the future.

    1. Had you been using disk imaging, you could have been alerted to this apparent disk failure at an early stage.

When creating a disk image using Macrium Reflect (Free version available, no longer developed) it performs a CRC check on the integrity of the data being imaged, as well as on the backup destination when creating e.g. a differential image reliant on an existing full image file.

On one occasion the next image I attempted to create of one disk led to a CRC error report. Hard Disk Sentinel confirmed bad sectors- not many, but enough. I was able to recover everything.

Formatting that disk led to it being useful again- but of course only hid the problem. I replaced it.

    2. Use e.g. Crystal Diskinfo (free) to continuously monitor SMART status and report against preset thresholds.
That way you get an early report.

I have 4 external Hard drive that give unspecified error when scanning with CHKDSK /R or CHKDSK /F. On the 60TB Flash Hard drive the Chkdsk /SCAN completed successfully at first and showed no bad sectors on the disk. Then I setup that drive for File History and windows keep saying there are problems with that disk and tries to check it but reports it failed then it opens another repair windows and that fails too. I partially scanned the drive with Victoria and it found timeout error at around the 63GB area on the disk. This Hard drive is less than a month old but I don't know who the maker of it is and if they have a warranty or not. I have another flash hard drive that is 4TB that shows unspecified errors when scanning with chkdsk. Both drives are unknown by Hard Disk Sentinel, and require a surface scan with that software to detect the drive problems if any but that surface scan is only available in the paid version. The 1TB Seagate HDD IS Reported in Hard Disk Sentinel and it shows 968 bad sectors. The Seagate 8TB Backup Plus Hub has 24704 bad sectors according to the Hard Disk Sentinel software

    Thank you for your reply.

Should you wish to perform a surface scan (purely to get a pictorial view of the state of the disk's surface) there are freeware programs available e.g. by Macrorit.

This will take a long time for a large disk.

Feel free also to try e.g. Crystal Diskinfo (free) for a SMART check of the 'unknown' disks.. noting sometimes this can be unavailable over USB, or if there is a hardware problem.
