Once again, as I said above, I thought very clearly..

    Click 'Try manually selecting....'

    - and then you choose the O/S from drop-downs.

As I showed you above in screenshots... you choose Win 7 32 or 64 bits as you wish.

Please carefully follow the steps I gave in post #9.

In case you can't get the HP driver to work you could at least try VueScan as has been suggested in a previous post.
If anything it will verify if your scanner is still working. VueScan does support your scanner:

VueScan Info for HP ScanJet 2400
HP ScanJet 2400 Scanner Driver & Software | VueScan Scanner Software

    VueScan Home Page
VueScan Scanner Software for macOS, Windows 10, and Linux

    VueScan 9.8.15. Aug 20, 2023. Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Vista
    32-bit: https://www.hamrick.com/files/vuex3298.exe
    64-bit: https://www.hamrick.com/files/vuex6498.exe

BTW, I use Vuescan with a couple old scanners that are over 20 years old:
    • HP ScanJet 5370Cse
    • Canon CanoScan N656U

    dalchina:
I guess I didn't mention in post #10, I had downloaded the driver, uninstalled the old and reinstalled. My apologizes.
Most interesting, is when you access test the scanner from Control Panel devices (has a test menu option), it comes back OK.
Just using FAX and Scan fails. I'm pretty sure (?) FAX and Scan is using WIA, as last time it failed I went to services and of the services running WIA was most active, and the software was hung.

    MisterEd:
Haven't ruled that out. Just a last resort. This is giving me an opportunity to troubleshoot a windows device, since normally things work.
