Should My HDD Be On The 'Safe To Eject' List On Task Bar Hidden Icons?

When I click on the upwards pointing arrow '^' of "show hidden icons" on the right hand side of my task bar and click on the USB icon, my SSD HD appears on the list of hardware and media I can safely eject.

Should my HD be on this list? I can't conceive of an occasion when I would need quick access to be able to disconnect my HD using the task bar facility. What would happen if I accidentally clicked on it? Would my HD be disconnected and the pc become inoperable?

    Thanks for any advice.

No, it certainly shouldn't be in the list of removable media, but I have seen a few others report seeing the same thing as you. Don't worry though, you won't be allowed to accidentally eject it because the system files will always be in use.

Thanks for your reply Bree. Should the HD be removed from the list of removable media, or is this complicated?

It's not something I have seen myself, all my machines are laptops. But for a desktop I've been looking around and seen advice saying that you should check the Bios and see if it has been set as hotswap on the Sata/nmve channel for that SSD.

For the record, my NVME C: drive has always been listed as "removable" under both W10 and W11. It is listed in Device Manager as both "Better Performance" (must use "Safely Remove Hardware" to remove) and "Enable Write Caching on the device".

However, it can't be removed as there are always files listed as in use.
