Automount keeps getting disabled. How to stop.

I have a problem with automount periodically switching back to disabled and I know of others with the same issue.

Can anybody help with the issue ? Perhaps a scheduled task ?

    Many Thanks

If you mean "autorun", that happened to me a couple of weeks ago fo no apparent reason. Plugged in a usb drive and nothing. Had to access it via file manager. Solution #2 did it for me.

    Automount is presumably this:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...ands/automount

Enable or Disable Automount of New Disks and Drives in Windows

    - at the end of which colsearle has asked exactly the same question.

If you wished to try to find WHAT made the change, you could start with a registry monitoring tool e.g.
Registry Live Watch will track changes in Windows Registry live

and perhaps relate that to a log generated by Procmon (Sysinternals Process Monitor).

I suppose as an interim measure you might consider changing the permissions of the relevant registry key...

    Thanks for your reply dalchina.
I should have mentioned that I have a small repair business and look after many machines for customers who encounter the issue periodically. I also experience this on my own machine periodically.
Unfortunately the occurrence only happens approximately once every six months so monitoring is not really practical.
    Thanks

Mm, one I've not heard of.. and nothing obvious on tenforums that I've found- a more rigorous or different search might turn something up.

Are you referring to internal, external drives or both?

How do you enable automount when it is disabled?
I.e. is anything in the tutorial effective then?

As you suggest you could run a scheduled task using something from the tutorial as a basis... if that works in your circumstance.

It would be helpful to know the status of the relevant registry key when automount becomes disabled- if it toggles to reflect the status then perhaps my idea of changing the permissions would work.

I have always re-enabled using admin CMD - diskpart - automount enable which works perfectly until the reocurrance usually after a period of months
I will certainly check the registry value next time before making the change with diskpart.
With my own and some customer machines I use a scheduled weekly backup using disk imaging software but the backup is weekly so I'm reluctant to fault it and it's not a product I wish to change. Just trying to think what could be capable of making the change.
I haven't really looked into a scheduled task to set the registry value on boot. Any guidance would be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

Thanks. Are you referring to internal, external drives or both?

As to the scheduled task, it looks as if you could simply run a bat file with those commands- you can ensure that runs silently.

    E.g.
How to minimize a batch file running at startup via Task Scheduler?

    - which gives other options - and see the last post.

Presumably you've eliminated all the other possible causes - and found the only way to fix this is as you've described.

Trying to find topics on mounting being an issue for external drives is actually hard as there are so many covering other possible issues.

    Paragon Hard DisK Manager 17

The problem appears to be caused by restarting whilst paragon Hard Disk Manager 17 is running a scheduled backup.

Posting in the paragon forums to try and find a solution.
