How to test a hard drive that is attached by USB

It depends on where you bought this thing.

Did you buy it from some 3rd party seller on eBay or something?
Did the hard drive come within the enclosed case?
Did you get it at a really good "discount"? Is it okay if you post the link of where you got it from?

Get CrystalDiskInfo (the ZIP version is portable)..

Download - Crystal Dew World [en]


Run it and see what it says. It should return a "GOOD" rating, like so...

I suppose the drive has been initialized (MBR or GPT). Check with disk manager (C:\Windows\System32\diskmgmt.msc)
If it is initialized it doesn't seems to be good.
Why don't you ask for an exchange on the store you bought it?
