    Hard Disk Error (3F2)

I have a HP Laptop 15-dw3000. I was cleaning it to give to my granddaughter and did a disk clean. Since then every time i try to boot up I get this error - Hard Disk Error. Please run the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics. Hard Disk (3F2)
I have run tests - all the tests PASS - Processor, Memory, Storage, Power, System Board.
I have bought a new hard drive and installed - same result. Did I do something when I did the disk clean? I am at my wits end - one tech guy said I might have messed up the drive letters. The only screen I can get into is the F2 test I have just described and the F10 - Bios Setup Utility. I would really be grateful for any help

    Hello @JonBraut,

    - Please explain what you mean by disk clean ?
    - What did you use to perform the disk clean, diskpart maybe or something else ?
    - After the disk clean, did you re-install Windows, and if so, how and what did you use ?
    - Did you delete ALL Partitions to leave a SINGLE UNALLOCATED space to install Windows.

The more information that you can give us, the better we may be able to help you.

@Paul Black - note JonBraut says a new drive was used with a clean install. Assuming that's the only drive in the laptop, that must have been a clean install, with the same outcome.

3F2 seems to be a HP- related error number. See e.g.
    https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebo...t/td-p/7590501

The suggestion would seem to be that it's a hardware problem. However the laptop seems to be relatively new- is that correct?

However you were able to complete a Win 10 installation with a new drive, which implies that during that the drive was accessible.

If you now boot the PC from your Win 10 installation disk, but click 'repair your computer' and so boot to a command prompt (see relevant Tutorial if unsure how), can you see the internal disk using command prompt commands?

Hi Paul and Dalchina, thanks , I used the Windows utility that allows one to wipe the drive clean keeping only the operating system. After that this problem came up. The other drive with the Win10 os was done a different machine. Neither takes me past the message about Hard Disk Error.

The laptop is just out of warranty

The other drive with the Win10 os was done a different machine.
    - which means it's totally irrelevant to the original post as it's never been in the problem machine as implied in your first post.

    Is that correct? Confusing!

OR do you mean that having installed Win 10 on it on a different PC, you put it in your laptop?

If so, do both machines use UEFI?

As stated, this implies to me it's a hardware problem. See links I posted.

Note the BIOS has a recent update:
    HP Firmware Pack(Intel Processors)
    F.62 Rev.A 79.8 MB Jun 29, 2023

Also note reports correlate issues with Intel Rapid Storage technology with error 3F2

I suggest you do a clean install
I suggest you build the USB Win 10 22h2 installation drive using MCT

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

As you have a UEFI BIOS, you should install as UEFI-GPT
Detach any other drives from the computer.

During POST, press F9(?) to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name) to install as UEFI-GPT.
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the main drive till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.
If you don't want to use MS account, don't enable updates or connect to the internet during installation.

Check your HP's warranty. If it's still under warranty, contact HP to have them hopefully send you a new laptop maybe:
