I have a usb-c hub (ugreen). When it is plugged in (even with no device attached), from time to time, I can hear windows sound as when you plug in or out a usb device. If a device is attached to the hub, it will disconnect/reconnect.
I do not have this behavior when running linux.
What could be the cause and how to fix this ?

Are your USB drivers up to date? Is your USB C port set to provide power, i.e. charging?
My drivers are up to date.
I could not find information about my USB-C power delivery. My motherboard is Z490-A-PRO, and it only says it's a Gen 2 type C.
Could it explain the disconnection, even with nothing plugged in ?
The hub has an optional power delivery input in case you need to charge something with it, but it's not my use case.
If you have some additional hardware, you might be able to perform a process of elimination:
1) Connect another hub. If that hub does not have the same difficulties, then the issue is likely with the hub or a compatibility issue between that hub and your system.
2) As an alternative, try connecting that hub to another PC. If the problem also occurs on that other PC, it is likely the hub that is at fault.
3) Another step that you could try would be to take a look at the event viewer and see if there are any messages that provide information as to why the disconnect is happening.
4) Also, is it only this USB-C hub that has this difficulty? Do any other USB devices have difficulties on this same machine.?
I don't have another hub, but I will try it on another computer.
When this happen I have a system event saying disk 5 has the same disk identifier as another one. Disk 5 is the SD car reader (which is empty) in the hub.
No issue with other USB devices
Actually, I don't have another usb-c port on my other computer.
There is only the event about disk identifier in windows system event, when this happen.
And no issue when I plug this hub under linux on the same computer.
What else can I do ?

Ah, yes. Duplicate disk identifier. Am I correct in the assumption that one drive was cloned to another?
I believe I have info in my notes on how to correct that. I'll look for that when I get up in the morning.
I got lucky, I had those notes with me on this laptop...
To correct the problem of multiple disks having the same signature, do the following:
Run diskpart.
Run "list disk" to determine which disk you want to work on.
Note: You can run "detail disk" to see details for the disk if you need more info for a particular disk. Detail disk will show you the current disk ID.
Run "uniqueid disk id=12345678-1234-1234-1234-123456789012", substituting the Disk ID that you want to assign to the disk. You can assign any unique value using the number of digits as in the above example. I usually just change a couple digits of the current ID.
After changing the Disk ID, you may want to take the disk offline, close disk manager, storage spaces, and anything else that may have cached info about the disk. When you bring the disk back online it should be good to use again.
NOTE: If you cannot change the uniqueid of the disk, you may need to first do a "convert gpt" on the disk.
Note really the issue, but I'll chime in here for posterity.
Another reason why someone may hear constant disconnect sounds is due to a virtual optical drive.
